That's an interesting thougt...

I'd be interested to see statistics by culture regarding suicide attempts and successes... I wonder where America ranks.

No sympathy here. I'm tired of this country being full of weak minded people. Heck, I'll drive them to the bridge to save'm the trouble gettin there. People make me sick anymore. They cant handle ANYTHING. Everyone wants life handed to them on a silver platter. WAKE UP CALL! LIFE ISNT EASY! Suck it up and DEAL with it! If you cant handle the bumps in the road, then get off it and let the rest of us by.

Actually, I think America ranks relatively low in terms of the suicide rate. Interesting, Japan's suicide rate is extremely high compared to ours.

To all those that want to make generalized statements about 'suicidal people' : You're wrong.

If you can't be sensitive to the people who believe death is their only option, at least be sensitive to the people they left behind. I found my beautiful, smart, funny, cool sister dead, I will always have to remember that and try to deal with that every single day. I don't think some of you would be as insensitive or flippant if you had to go through what I did.

I figure if you really wanted to kill yourself, and were capable of doing it, it wouldn't be very hard to do.

If you're just messed up and want attention, you'll do something very dangerous to yourself, but will leave a way for someone to save you (I've known people like this).

I know someone who was in the hospital (for an unrelated reason) when some lady came in with her family. She was screaming and in so much pain. She had decided to kill herself by downing a bottle of liquid Drain-o....

well i happen to agree with this lesbian hor you speak of.

if someone wants to kill themselfs thats their decision to make. not yours. some peopel beleive death is the way out and they could be right or not but its their decision to make and we shouldent try and stop them.

in this country we have freedon of choice, and if someone chooses to kill themselfs then so be it

Gopunk you're sounding like an academician... get out, get out before it's to late. ;)

i will... in 'bout six more years :p

anyways, to all of you who are saying how selfish it is, blah blah blah... well you can flip it around... friends and family are selfish for wanting the guy to stay alive. the guy is obviously in a *world* of pain... and you want them to keep on suffering just so you can talk to them? that's not selfish? i can tell you one thing, if i had a relative with a terminal illness (god forbid) and they wanted to pull the plug, i would be the last one to stop them.

it might have something to do with all that glue i've been sniffing, but i agree with gopunk for the second time this week. for some people, suicide really is the best option. you don't know the full story. if the woman wants to die, she'll die. if she really wants to live, she'll pull through. will power is pretty strong. and i think jumping off a bridge is a pretty strong statement about your commitment to your choice.

Now thats a different story. I've seen what suicide does to families...Pretty sucky. Yeah, I do feel sorry for the families and friends in those cases.

What I hate is when those weak minded people attempt to sue anyone and anything in a pathetic attempt to get money, like those stories of people suing Mickey D's for hot coffee. I mean, wtf?
And to get back on topic, I think you have to be in a seriously deep funk to become suicidal. I've known plenty of depressed people who weren't anywhere close to being suicidal, so it seems that for someone to get to that point, they think its their only way out, and that is a dangerous mindset. I wouldn't consider them capable of making a competent decision, so I'd say one should always attempt to step in and look at other alternatives

well, she's got a point... neither of you really know the situation so neither of you can really judge one way or another though.

you're telling me if one is not capable of thinking clearly and optimistically and ends up making the decision to kill him/herself, you wouldn't do anything about it? what about the pain and the scar the person would cause to the family etc.?

What if it's not the family's choice? What if she wants to die? What if she has a mortal disease, and doesn't want to go through pain? All I ask from suicidal people is one thing: Don't make a fscking mess for someone else to clean up. It's not very thoughtful.

duuuuuuuuuuuuude LM you so think like me it's not even funny

Yeah, pretty much. I don't have time for losers like that.

^My opinion.

Word, unless you personally know the person. Even if you did, and you don't know them well, it's their choice.

^ my opinion.

And this ignorant lesbian hor says, "who cares? if she wants to die, let her kill herself" omfg what an ignorant imbecile. I was about to smack her silly and confront her in front of everyone but I let go. After things settled down, we went back to the Link to watch the game, and surprise surprise, she opens her pie hole again, "I mean, if she made that choice, let her die." At this point I went off, "is that your attitude towards someone suicidal? just let them Die!?" By the immediate tone of my voice, she was somewhat subdued and started to stutter. "I mean, you know, if she wants to die.. If i saw the pattern of being suicidal, I wouldn't Let her die."

I grew tired of watching the game and couldn't stand her. I'm back at my dorm now.. omfg..

Were you there? Do you know the situation and why the person jumped?

Oh yea smacking her would have done alot of good. Talk about a ignorant imbecile.

You need help my friend, you obviously have an a**hole complex, get help for yourself and for those around you.

Depression and suicide have been around forever and only now are we able to better treat people with the affliction.

Damn. That would be absolutely aweful. Probably the most aweful thing you could go through...... Especially as a child or young adult.

You can only help those that want to help themselves.

She does not want to commit suicide or else you would be reading it in the obits, just some attention crazed junkie who wants to be in the spotlight and to garnish attention...looks like she got you.

Everybody dies sometime and leaves family and friends behind. What's the difference if they're struck by lightning, have a coronary, or jump off a bridge. Not much in the end; they're still dead.
