WTF?! I was watching the Pats game at the Link area when this EMS student's walkie-talkie went off saying, "a woman jumped off the university avenue bridge"

We immediately went to the main desk to hear further details. And this ignorant lesbian hor says, "who cares? if she wants to die, let her kill herself"

omfg what an ignorant imbecile. I was about to smack her silly and confront her in front of everyone but I let go. After things settled down, we went back to the Link to watch the game, and surprise surprise, she opens her pie hole again, "I mean, if she made that choice, let her die."

At this point I went off, "is that your attitude towards someone suicidal? just let them Die!?" By the immediate tone of my voice, she was somewhat subdued and started to stutter. "I mean, you know, if she wants to die.. If i saw the pattern of being suicidal, I wouldn't Let her die."

I grew tired of watching the game and couldn't stand her. I'm back at my dorm now.. omfg..

"If they chose to kill themselves, let them die."

Yeah, pretty much. I don't have time for losers like that.

^My opinion.

well, she's got a point... neither of you really know the situation so neither of you can really judge one way or another though.

Oh come on. If they make repeated attempts there's not much you can do, but just a little treatment or counseling could help someone out of it.

These people have friends and family after all.

you're telling me if one is not capable of thinking clearly and optimistically and ends up making the decision to kill him/herself, you wouldn't do anything about it? what about the pain and the scar the person would cause to the family etc.?

Suicidal people don't = losers. They = lost.

no, i'm telling you that there are circumstances under which somebody can very legitimately make a decision to kill him/herself, and i don't really think you or anybody else is in a position to determine whether or not that is a "valid" choice. thinking optimistically is not a requirement... if their life sucks, thinking optimistically is just being delusional. thinking clearly however, is... but it doesn't sound like either of you two know whether she was thinking clearly or not.

What if it's not the family's choice? What if she wants to die? What if she has a mortal disease, and doesn't want to go through pain? All I ask from suicidal people is one thing: Don't make a fscking mess for someone else to clean up. It's not very thoughtful.

The way I look at it is, if someone truly wants to kill themselves, they'll be dead. Otherwise, it's a cry for help. If you shoot yourself in the head, you want to commit suicide. If you take a bottle of sleeping pills twenty minutes before your husband/wife gets home, you're crying out for help.

Agreed. I like the way you think. :D

Anyone who jumps off a bridge in a public place is not trying to kill themselves, though that may be the result of thier actions. they are trying to be listened to.

The woman who made that comment might be a lesbian but I doubt she's a whore. She is probably ignorant, but if you're going to be mad at everyone on college campuses who are ignorant well...

Gopunk you're sounding like an academician... get out, get out before it's to late. ;)

People are going to do what people are going to do. Helping people is the right thing to do in most cases, but I think it is important to remember that some people simply do not want to be helped.

I've seen so many suicidal attempts & gestures, I've actually got some respect for someone that pulls it off

Seriously though, the loss of a human life is a tragedy, and it's a selfish act, it's the ultimate way of saying "Screw You" to everyone that knows you or cares about you...

We have no right to the life part of "life, liberty and pursuit of happiness" unless we have a right to end that life.

I agree that in some cases it's selfish and harms those we love, but ultimately, it's YOUR life and YOUR decision.

And to be honest, people wouldn't use suicide as a tool to gain attention if we didn't throw such a fit over it.
