Considering that represents 0.48% of his winnings, & likely an even smaller percentage of his net worth, I doubt he would have been too heartbroken.

He also said he wanted to remind the media and the public that he is a private citizen.

"I'm simply a businessman who has seen his share of failures and successes," Whittaker said. "My personal life is my own and I make no excuses for my actions."

Oh I don't know. He's got the right attitude. Stupid to carry that amount of cash around yes, but it's his money and he can do what he likes.

He probably realized he didn't have a chance in hell of keeping it.

BTW, I bet $545K buys you a hell of an evening at the strip club.

I wonder why the thief didn't take the money. Yeah, the guy is an idiot to carry that much cash. This wasn't his first time either, carrying that much cash around, he's going to be a target for some greedy thieves in the future.

Only in WV. I was wondering how in the world someone gets a blank cashier's check. When I worked as a bank teller, there was no way you could leave without the From: and Pay To: fields printed in. As far as I know, that was a federal regulation.

And to think people doubted me when I said the vast majority of lottery winners end up broke in 10 years or less.

He won 113 million. He has already given away 3 million, and regularly carries around half a million in cash to strip clubs.

He'll be broke in no time at all.

Just occured to me that this is the guy who won like 300 some million, and was giving 10% to local churches. Sounds like his definition of "churches" is a little skewed. ;)

The difference here though, is that the guy was a millionaire BEFORE he won the lotto.

He may be an 'effin maroon, but he still managed to accumulate a pretty good chunk of wealth before he won even more.

Speaking totaly out of speculation, you probably don't want to go through a stripclubs dumpster.

/shudders at the thought of what a strip club throws out every night.

I don't think that a man's dubious personal actions devalue his charitable acts. The charitable actions certainly don't buy him redemption, but an act of kindness is no less an act of kindness because of the source.

There may be some exceptions, but I don't think this is one of them.

why would the thief not keep the money? or at least keep a couple thousand. What an idiot. Maybe he was too dumb to know how to open the briefcase.

I have a little more hope for him, considering he built a multi-million dollar business & was already wealthy.

I still bet the money he won is gone in 10 years. Even wealthy people will treat free money badly.

BTW, not to play detective, but this was an inside job.

The thief couldn't leave, and therefore was most likely an employee of the club. He hid the loot to retrive later when he could leave.

Hmm...possible. And that lotto winner dude claims he was drugged when he 'returned' to the strip club around 2:30AM...

BTW...why the hell would you COME BACK to a strip club at TWO FRICKIN THIRTY IN DA MORNIN'??? And he wasn't ready to leave until 5AM?? Seriously, did he run out of cash...so he went home for more?? I can think of only a few other reasons ;)

I wonder how rich the strippers in his hometown have become...its gotta be the hottest job in town...

This is the redneck who promised during a Powerball press conference to give 10% of his winnings to local churches. Whittaker was already a multi-millionare before winning the record Powerball jackpot.

It figures. Either they're already rich and thus don't need any money, or they're so old as to be nearly dead.

$245,000 in cash and three $100,000 cashier's checks

He could have put a stop payment on the cashier's checks (although it's a bit of a hassle), so he would "only" have been out a quarter of a million.

"Pink Pony" BWAHAHAHAHA! I can only think of one good reason to return to a strip club at 2:30 AM just before closing time (3 AM)...

Skewed? How bout your math? First, he didn't get $300million, he took the $113million cash prize. Second, $3,000,000 is NOT 10% of $300,000,000. It's 1%....
