Man, this sucks!!!! It's my first year outta college and I don't know how I'm gonna adjust to just TWO FRICKIN' DAYS OF VACATION (Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.) Sure, I get New Year's Day too but that's not even contiguous. I know people who work in retail who get a longer break than that...and I'm a consultant for chrissakes!!!

Basically we fell behind on this huge major project, and we need to collect time critical data from a survey and have it all analyzed before a major event in January.

I don't like my job anymore, and I don't get paid much either (especially compared to others working similar jobs in larger companies.) If I had worked harder in school and earned a decent GPA I wouldn't have to put up with this sh*t. This economy sucks too. Damn...

Well, if it sucks that bad, apply yourself and get a better one. Sorry to be so blunt, but that's the way it is.

Welcome to reality.

;)

This year will be the first year in two years that I don't work both Christmas eve and Christmas day, & the only reason I didn't work New Year's last year is because Sarah was here.

The job I'm doing now has major holidays off (more corporate level support instead of home user) so I'll have Christmas off & New Year's as well. I'll be in PA the 29th through the 5th anyway, so it doesn't really matter.

Heh, heh. It's called "you're in the real world now". 2 weeks vacation and 9 holidays is pretty much standard issue for first-year jobs. You could always move to France, Italy or Germany: I hear they have 40+ days off a year.

LOL, my motto in college was "if only I had applied myself..."

Seriously though, even my friends with the 3.4+ GPAs are having problems. This one girl I know is out of work because her firm pushed her start date back from August to January...and then to June!!! Others have had job offers rescinded, and the senior class this year is dealing with "hiring freezes". Consulting is a tricky business to get into these days.

Currently I'm in talks with a former employer (internship) to see if I can get a job there as a video gaming consultant! That would be my dream job!

I believe most companies require thier employee's to only take Christmas Eve and Christmas Day off for holidays this year. It's just the luck of the draw this year.....or lack there of in this case.

Ouch, that sucks :( But yeah, I'm still amazed at this "month off for Christmas" thing in college... Monday is our last day of classes and exams are the rest of the week, and then we don't go back til the 7th. But I'm working in between :( But only the days I ask for :)

I have you beat. I am a contractor. I only get 1 day off - Xmas, but my client gets one week off. So guess what, I have to use 4 days of vacation that week if I want a paycheck. Either that or they offered to lay me off for a week so I could collect unemployment instead. Have you ever seen an unemployment line at the holidays? So I get to use up the rest of vacation time that week.

Needless to say I am furiously looking for a new job.

I know how you feel. I only get Christmas day off. :(
Same deal for New Year's. I'm off the 1st but will be at work the rest of the week, but I don't go out so it's not as much of a disappoint as just one day for Christmas.

But, I have a job.(looking for the silver lining. ;))

Welcome to the real world.

Try being a network admin, skeleton crew over the holidays. And this company is international, so I get NO days off for the Holidays.

I get the whole week from Christmas until New Year's off. I do have to work on Christmas Eve though so I have to come in one day and then have a week off. I could use a vacation day, but I would rather not. By the way I have 3 weeks vacation, the week between Christmas and New Year's, 9 holidays, and one personal holiday off each year. That's not even counting sick time if I need it. You just have to find the right place at the right time and you'll be set.

Thrillhou: Same here... my last day of work is Dec. 21 and I don't go back until 1/2/2002... :) I love the vacation benefits at this job... up to 33 days paid vacation, plus up to 6 months of sick leave! I took almost a month off last summer with some medical issues and it was nice not to have to worry about whether I'd still have a job after a month of being gone...
