wtf i am sick of staying at home

graduated from an excellent school in may, went abroad to travel, came back, got an awesome job waiting for me.

i fvcking hate staying home though. my parents nag the fvck out of me about the small things. my dad asked with anger and apprehension why i need/use dual monitors. i didnt even know how to answer because it's the dumbest questions and not sure if i even needed to give a response. there are other things, and fvcked if i have to list them.

in your father's defense, dual monitors does seem rather excessive to the average person.

anyways, congrats on graduating and congrats on moving out 🙂

To me, dual monitors is THE most worthwhile upgrade for a computer. I'd rather skimp on the processor or video card to get dual monitors.

It's too bad the decision makers in my company aren't smart enough to realize that dual 20" LCDs are a worthwhile investment for programmers who have a dozen or so PuTTy windows open at a time.

exactly, having 2 monitors is awesome. especially when i used to work on research that requires me to open like a million pages and programs. now that i am out of school, it just means that i can browse and watch shows at the same time. but blah, i am selling my rig. gonna go with a laptop. if any one of you are interested, check out my FS threadText

dual monitors is the most effective single upgrade you can do!

I'm moving up to three in a couple weeks! (15" CRT, 21" CRT, 19" LCD)

Hehe, my dad din't complain.
It made things a lot easier in fact, but mainly because I went from 1x19" CRT to 2x17" LCD. Much easier to put in the car for coming home in the holidays, less power, less space.

You want to be all grown up and independant like a real adult, but you are whining about living at home because dad razzed you on dual monitors.... Sounds more juvenile than adult, but hey that's Gen Y for ya...
 
Ever think that because your moving out thier feelings are very hurt because thier little boy is leaving and they are having a hard time trying to show it so it comes across as anger?

yeah of course i thought of that. but regardless the manifestation of their feelings, the end result is me getting annoyed and pissed. and that's all that matters, yes yes, that selfish. but i hold that as a virtue. if i don't look out for me, who will?

look, i know you guys are saying i am spoiled etc etc. but the truth is, i have never really had a good relationship with my parents, and i am more independent of them than anyone else. all i want to do now is to get out and live my own life. i don't need them to tell me when to go to bed, or what to do with my time, tell me to drink water, and a whole a lot of other things. i am going through enough problems now as it is.

As long as you're under their house, you play by their rules. You'll understand when you have kids of your own. You ever think about the kids born to crack addicted parents or parents so poor that these kids have never lived inside a home? Their are a lot of kids that have spent their entire life living in homeless shelter

my research involved using GIS softwares and statistical softwares, not to mention a whole a lot of pdfs, articles open. plus, it's just easier to get organized. but the dual-monitor incident is only a symptom, not the crux of the problem.

yeah i thought about this thread when i posted. not sure how much we have in common though.

for some reason, i doubt i will be going home a lot, even when i do get a day off from work.
 
It's amusing how set in their ways people can get. Like recently, there's been a bit of a plumbing issue at home - a supply hose for a faucet in the basement came loose, so that sink is out of commission until *gasp* tomorrow. My dad's just after me, "Isn't there anything you can do to fix it right now?" It's just not worth the trouble! We're going in town tomorrow, and we can stop at a hardware store then. (It's a 20 mile round trip drive to the nearest one, not worth the trip just for that.)
Better yet, in the very next room over from this sink, is a bathroom. With a sink.

When there's nothing major left to complain about, people always find the littlest things, and make them big. Back to the faucet - with the junky old one removed, and a shiny new one in its place, my mom's now got it in mind to "tidy up" the rest of the room to match the new faucet. Seriously.

But hey, you've not even 2 weeks left to deal with this stuff. I don't know how long I've got. I'm in college, and I need to make what money I can during the summer to pay for it. Living in an apartment, paying half my money away for rent, it just isn't really an option at all.

you might have a point there. my parents dont really do anything at all. for their downtown, they work on sudokus together. they are only in their 50s, but they act as if they are in their 70s. i mean god, sudokus? the only time i do those is when i am in class to kill time!
