They're showing Tony Blair making his statement here in California right now.

EDIT: Tony Blair leaving the G8 conference.

Has anyone actually been killed? I've got Radio 5 on and they've only mentioned casualties rather than fatalities.

They just showed a dead body on TV.

I'm sure it's just a dummy though

20 confirmed dead.

20???!!! fvck!!

In that case, Radio 5 sucks, so much for "live news, live sport" as the slogan goes.

Although, bbc online only says 2 at the moment.

Why oh why did I get rid of my shortwave radio? It's 4am; I can pick up BBC shortwave at this time of night.

At the time of 9/11 my youngest sister worked within a few hundred meters of the Pentagon... A while after that she moved back to London, and now this happens :(

She's ok, and so is her boyfriend, but she was in a bus when it happened...

any clue on who the terrorists are? Al Qaeda? someone else?

The BBC just received a statement which probably came from Al Qaida claiming it.
And Arab sources who monitor Al Qaida also said it most likely is them.

If nobody (believably) claims it, then it's almost certain that it's Al Qaeda.

IRA isn't out of the question. They liked to bomb the crap out of London in the 70s and 80s, but it was usually one giant blast, not coordinated. Maybe they felt they needed to make it coordinated to be taken seriously in the current terrorist environment.

They hate our freedoms, and we are losing our freedoms to "protection" from them... It's exactly what they want...

Did anyone ever stop for a minute and think whether the US/UK Foriegn policies are somehow related to the creation of these attacks?
I'm not judging nor saying its ok, but I live in a part of the world where this happens on regular basis, and because of my unique cultural mix, I try and look at the whole picture, not always the one put infront of us...

Then it would be the 'Real IRA', the militant split-off from the IRA who see the current IRA as treators.

There will always be raving loons with legions of other raving loons willing to buy into their illogical and downright immoral beliefs, and blow themselves and others up in the name of those beliefs. The US/UK foreign policy may have increased the vigor of said idiocy, but it was likely inevitable.

EDIT: Said "illogical and immoral beliefs" are the one about killing innocent people in the name of your God. I'm down with Allah, just not his more gun-happy followers.

Our NBC affiliate felt it was far more in the area's interest to switch back to infomercials than to continue covering the attack. I'm now forced to watch the coverage on C-SPAN's Washington Journal.

the first rumour was that the bombs were in dust bins. As it apears now they were on the buses and trains. Weren't they?

?? jihadis have always hated the infidels/great satans foreign policy. and considering what they want. its just unacceptable and frankly impossible to appease them. and frankly its bullsh*t anyways. when have we intentionally bombed civilians as a tactic?

It appears that up to seven Underground (London's subway system) stops were targeted. Casualties galore (at least 90 reported at one station alone with two fatalities reported). This is all very preliminary but it's obviously an orchestrated attack. Some of the stops included Liverpool, Aldgate, and Kings Cross. There are reports of people still trapped in the Tube and the national morning news shows keep showing looped footage of survivors receiving assistance.

Footage has also been shown of the top of one of London's famous double-decker buses having been destroyed by an explosion.

Now, whether the attack was timed to coincide with the opening of the G8 today or whether Paris, London, Madrid, NYC, etc. were going to be hit one day after the announcement of the location of the 2012 Olympics is also unclear.

What is clear, though, is that the fvcking BS rhetoric from this admin that "America and the world are safer" is now completely and utterly without basis. Attacks like this will continue no matter what countries are invaded and no matter what sanctions are imposed upon others. There will always be a fringe element seeking to cause death and destruction.

Better security at home at ports, chemical plants, transportation hubs, trucking industry, etc. is what we need, not more bombs and bullets.

Here's an early report from CNN:

Very unlike a typical IRA bombing: several blasts, no warning given. Plus they've not been into bombings for years now.
I'm banking on Al Q or another group of yalla yallas...
