You'll be fine, don't worry about it. Alot of shops switch from Dexcool to green because of possible issues with Dexcool. Ignore the doom sayers above.

Did you read the whole thread? No oil change costs nearly $90.

Actually, plenty of 'oil changes' cost that much. When's the last time you priced two gallons of Dexcool? Would I pay that much for a fluid change? No, but its not a completely unreasonable price. However, I was referring to the dexcool mixing issue. Its way overblown and nothing to worry about.

First, they try selling me on some 4 minute filter process for the oil because my old oil ... back, get pissed, and tell them so.

Mixing dextron and the "normal" antifreeze is a BAD THING even if they flush the system! You can't EVER mix the two. You'll literally end up with JELLO in your cooling system. :Q

No Bull ******? Where's DurocShark?

Seriously, I'll go back right now if OT says so.

I used to work for General Motors. This was one of the biggest points that we were taught when customers call in for information about this "new fangled Dextron stuff."

I sincerely hope the car doesn't get royally ******.

These are wise words.

It's not just a car, it's MY car. I can't have it shitt!ng out on me.

Do I need Dex in there? Regardless of the price, is my car in trouble with the green?

I buy my parts from the auto part stores. The only thing the body shop does for me is change the oil and switch the parts. $10. I don't wanna get my hands dirty.

You're a brave man if you let body shop guys touch anything mechanical on your car...

step 1 buy a manual for your car
step 2 do the work yourself and be a man
step 3 take the money saved and buy a new set of fuzzy dice Trust me, you just saved about $8k in rip offs and within a few years of being a man and doin the work yourself, you can afford to get the nice fuzzy dice.

Ok thanks, that's going to help me in the future. But for right now, should I get the orange put back in?

It's extremely possible. Jiffy Lube putting anything other than the original (+water) into the cooling system, whether they flush it or not, is a AMAZINGLY MAJOR no-no.

I have a GM car that came with DexCool and I switched to the normal green stuff. You do not need DexCool BUT it has to be completely flushed. Mixing those two is BAD news.

not sure if that was tongue in cheek, but not everyone has the time and/or desire to learn the in's and out's of autocare.

and, no, just because you don't have autocare knowledge doesn't mean you deserve to get ripped off.

hope you get your problem fixed, Zanix. the weather's getting damn cold around here and having problems with your car right now would suck.

Yep. As long as they were very thorough when they flushed it out then you should be fine.

Thanks for the personal exp. guys.

You're a fool to let them squeeze any money out of you.

When they approach you with the various "issues" they see just tell them "I do my own maintenece on my car when it needs it, just change the oil thanks.".

heh, i used to have my oil changed at the local oil change place when i didn't have time to do it myself...i went in with my buick about a year ago when i had just had my coolant system and tranmission flushed about 2k miles prior

the guy tried to tell me i needed both of those done, along with some other bullshit...after i explained to him that it had just been done, and i'm perfectly capable of handling these things myself, and to stop trying to sell me stuff i don't need, he tried to save face and tell me they just didn't do a very good job

moron

EDIT: and OP, you got ******

That's funny, because I just had a long conversation with my GM service manager and several of their GM mechanics regarding the Dex-Cool, and the smeg that was being left in my reservoir even though it was sealed properly.

All of them told me to keep Dex-Cool until my extended warranty ran out (100K) and then flush the system and switch over the regular anti-freeze.

Porsche oil changes are $280. 10qts of 0W40 Mobil 1 @ $8/qt, $15 filter, 1 hour labor at $105/hour, and a couple other things are also done/checked.

Whose the stupid one? The BMW tech making $50/hour or the BMW customer who pays $100/hour for labor?
