I think the problem is the demographic buying the most new cars from GM is no longer the sensible 30 year old middle class person. It's the gangbanger ghetto drug dealer and he's probably leasing it anyway.
I can attest that I have yet to buy a brand new car off the lot and I'm 31.
People buy cars to be trendy and for status. It will never matter how good it is, even if its better in every way. A Buick does not have the "look at me I i'm a wanna be rich but really debt burdened lower middle class baller" appeal that BMW/Lexus/Mercedes badge has in the 20s-30s demographic.
Nobody in that age bracket buys a Buick to keep up with the Jones' regardless how good the car really is. They'll buy a 325i IS200 or C200 instead and feel superior parking outside even though their garage is empty.
I'm really warming up to the Regal GS, However I'm having a hard time with two things
- It's a Buick
- Those 20" chrome wheels
However it offers everything I'm looking for in that segment
- 6 speed manual
- High output engine
Bonus
- Made in Canada
In pretty much everything else in the segment a 6 speed manual is not available with the top of the line model. At least from the Japanese and American auto makers. Both BMW and Audi do but I'm looking to buy a car for the long term and do not trust the long term reliability of either of those makes.
