It's a humorous backronym from GROMACS. More here. :)

But I thought they got rid of this one when a Russian team complained? :hmm:

I thought they'd removed it too. I don't think TSC's going to be all that impressed if it turns out they weren't removed...

hmmm, ... this is a trigger. I would like a little opium. Fortunately for me, I don't get excited about a drug that tends to make someone fall into a drug-induced stupor. I had opium once about 40 years ago. I probably couldn't handle it now.

I don't see why any Russian would be offended by this
I don't see why anybody would be offended by me saying "Fuck Jesus Christ" on the street. I mean, it's just a phrase, isn't it?

Oh please, be serious & think about it, their's no comparision , the joke's not saying (or implieing) that Russians are drug heads nor could it be taken seriously that anyone should dope them either. It's obviously just a joke!

Oh & you ought to star out the 'F' word as that will offend someone, or it'll attract a mods attention.....

That wasn't the point. The point is that the phrase doesn't offend me, but it obviously offends some people. So who are you to say why someone should or should not be offended by any one phrase?

No I didn't think it offended you, I was saying their is no real reason why it should offend any Russians (wrong word in earlier post;)). However some people will just react to nothing *shrug*, just their's no real reason to in this instance.

I don't think there's any reason to be offended by the obviously very inflammatory statement I posted above. It depends on how you define 'real'.

Well except to those who are religious it's like insulting a family member.

The above Russian joke doesn't target anyone particularly & it's obviously not a real statement of intent, that's what I meant.

If it were up to one person to decide who gets offended by what, life would be a lot easier than it is now. If someone is offended by a certain statement, you just have to deal with it and move on. You don't say "oh, but I don't think there's any reason to be offended by that" and ignore them. That's why I don't shout out inflammatory religious statements in the middle of the street.

And I find it rather interesting that you're thinking about this logically.

No I never said it was upto one person, I was saying that the Russian joke doesn't target a particular person, unlike your example.

I do try to think logically, thank you ;).

Mine doesn't either. Who does it target? Jesus? Well, he's dead. Christians? Same can be said for Russians. Prudes? Well, they need to lighten up anyway (just kidding).

I do try to think logically, thank you .
Interesting, since this is obviously not a context in which logic plays a large role.

lol
Btw Jesus Christ is a particular person who is revered (spelling??) by many
Well, if I insult Gandhi, I don't think anybody would be indignantly outraged on his behalf. So what is so different about Jesus?

What? err no I think you'd be wrong there, I'm pretty certain that many Indians at least would be upset if you insulted their hero.
