It's freaky the amount of spying they can really do on you. They pretty much know every site you've been to and what you've done on those sites. What your IRL conversations are, and probably even what you buy. This sort of spying needs to be illegal, but that's never going to happen given the government themselves are into that stuff.
We really have no privacy now days. Makes it worse that most people just don't care.
People love to pay for their lack of privacy, in many cases, it's the same people that cried about goverment spying for decades. It's pretty far out there man, but the implications of social media have been around since the beginning, it's just a generational gap in umderstanding technology that exists. My parents love it, ain't gonna change them. Now if they would stop telling me to check their new Facebook posts that would be nice
I use uBlock Origin to stop most of the add tracking. But, since my wife and I shop Amazon under the same account; I get ads using my phone for bras and what not.
I also have to allow some google content in order to log into YouTube. Maybe I'll look into Pi Hole, as
@ch33zw1z mentioned.
It's not too crazy to set up. I played with it in a VM first before I bought a raspberry pi and added an old laptop as my redundant one.

I just set up a PiHole on my network yesterday and it generally seems to be running ok (except stupid AT&T doesn't let you change your DNS so that's a pain in the butt. At least my Ubiquity AP allows for manual DNS) However, it still seems on some pages that ads will load (like the big banner ad...
