WTF?

even if it doesnt burn minutes, who the hell wants ads on the cell? heck, who wants ads, period?

Already happens. In Verizon's back-end setup system there's an option to block unwanted spam/telemarketing calls and SMS messages from your phone, if not enabled then people/companies can call or txt you with offers, and it DOES use your minutes.

You can call Vzn customer support and tell them to turn off (block) the spam/telemarketing indicators. It's right in their system, has been for months now, almost a year actually. Not sure if they're too useful yet, but they're there.
