I've never asked for a balance increase and one of mine has moved up to a 20K limit.

Only time I've ever seen a reduction is when I applied for some crappy card to get the free promo item; turns out the bank backing the card was the same as another I had and they reduced the one I had by an amount equal to the limit they gave on the new one.

Dealers would only allow me to charge small amount to a card (~$2000).

No seriously tho, if they raised your limits, and you don't use it, doesn't that raise your available credit and credit scores?

How could it hurt?

Discover sucks. I have a 1750 limit (freaking low) and wanted to raise it to 2500. I had to make a mid month payment last month because I put a lot of expenses on the card from traveling for business as well as moving from Omaha to Chicago.

They said they had to do a credit check on me to increase my credit limit to 2500. WTH is this all about. I've never made a late payment, I just got a 20k pay raise from switching jobs and they still won't raise my limit.

My sister in law said they didn't raise hte limit, but they did raise the interest rate by about 8%. Read the fine print!

Getting credit right now is near impossible.

Not if you have decent credit already. :)

I just opened a new CC the other day. I'd say that getting credit now isn't that hard if yours doesn't suck...as others have already confirmed.

I got 2500 or 3500 in fall of 2001 and now it's up to 21.5k. Highest I've ever had on it was probably 13k a couple years ago.

I am closing my. They have not raised my limit since I opened it. Never late, never over the limit for two years. I get love from everyone else but them.

My mom did. She bought a Monte Carlo with her AAA credit card. Though, they sent her blank checks that she could use to access that money. It's a win for her because she has 48 months with 0% interest.

I wish they'd raise mine. It's just a 500$ card, can't hardly do anything with it. I pay mine off every single month though, only one month have I ever not payed it off. Keeps me in good credit, but sometimes I wish I had 700. I could still pay it off in one month, but I could get more without borrowing parent's cards.
