There's no defending Apple as long as this abomination exists. The “hold your phone this way” was also like 10+ years ago. To be fair.

Am i missing something here or wtf is going on, since when can you not text android phones from an iphone?
8gb of ram
Nope, not even close.db servers
TBQH i've never used facetime, never used whatsapp (due to facebook) and only do normal text messanging...did not know the rest other than the colored bubble thingDefinitely missing something. Apple keeps certain features strictly walled off. The different colored bubbles seem harmless, but it's become a status symbol among teens. Also AFAIK putting an android number into a group text can still mess it up. Photos and videos are tiny low res things from iMessage to Android, vs something usable and higher res, due to Apple's walled garden. That really is a gripe among many. Also some other small features like delivery confirmation, read notifications and typing notifications are also walled in.
It's a major reason people won't switch actually. That and to a lesser extent, facetime. So yeah, you are missing a lot here.
Just like I can shit on Google for their leveraging their money for search engine exclusivity deals, Apple holding one of the top couple of ways we communicate in the US hostage is also terrible.
Definitely plenty of users like you, which is all good, but yeah, they do a lot of shit with iMessage. It's one of the bigger barriers facing folks that want to switch. Facetime is big with some families and among the kids too. Definitely not the whole user base but it's also a meaninful feature for a core group. But not nearly as big as the iMessage walled garden.TBQH i've never used facetime, never used whatsapp (due to facebook) and only do normal text messanging...did not know the rest other than the colored bubble thing
I mean you can get a macbook pro with 16gb of ram if you want. The way people are talking about it in this thread is as if 8gb is all they offer. They are talking like options are a bad thing. You can certainly upgrade RAM in many cases when you find out you need more, but many laptops are soldering in the RAM, or the ability to self-upgrade is limited by substantial disassembly requirements, so people may not fully understand their RAM requirements until it is too late.
LMAO this made me look at my system prefs again and you are correct - I have TWO 8gb sticks of ram in here. I thought it was just one lol. My newer MBP that is like 2021 I think which is my work computer I think has 32gb of ram.Nope, not even close.
To be fair, the iPhone 15 uses last year's flagship A16 Bionic. So it's fair for them not to go back and add functionality to an existing SoC. The "Pro" moniker means little in the Apple ecosystem besides it has more features and costs extra.Yes, that's what I meant. The controller on the SOC didn't support it, and they didn't want to roll in support by changing it out for the 15/15 Plus. My brain was not working at that hour.
Apple has done soldered RAM AND flash storage for years already, starting with MacBook Airs where it at least made engineering sense to do it that way. Apple Macs are basically disposable devices after a few years, which is great if you're an AAPL shareholder. You can certainly upgrade RAM in many cases when you find out you need more, but many laptops are soldering in the RAM, or the ability to self-upgrade is limited by substantial disassembly requirements, so people may not fully understand their RAM requirements until it is too late.
Yeah the idea of running Xcode on just 8GB RAM makes the sound of fingernails running across a chalkboard in my head.Nope, not even close.
£1700 is a lot to spend on a laptop if your workload doesn't need more than 8gb ram.Honestly, outside of a few use cases, most Mac users are fine with 8GB of RAM. We've helped deploy many thousands of Macs and the vast majority of people have no issues with 8GB.
Don't forget your fancy wheels now! lolThere's no defending Apple as long as this abomination exists.
This might be one of the funniest things I've read on the internet today. Dude - calm down your ravenous android slobbering is showing. I have never owned an apple device. Not a Mac, not an iPod, not an iPhone. But hey I said some bad things about Samsung and Google and some kinder things about Apple so I must be a apple fanboy. I can acknowledge negatives about Apple - there just haven't been any clear ones brought up IMO. You want to talk about fleet management? Sure I have more than a few negative opinions there. But the walled garden? There are a lot of huge positives to that esp when it comes to malware. Is it perfect? Nope. Is it better than Android? Yes for a large number of people. Could Google make a few vetting changes to more than close the gap? They could if they cared. Which they don't.but of course as an apple fanboy you can't admit a damn thing about apple, stuff which is pretty common knowledge these days. I mean Google sucks in many ways. But from your statement above you just can't acknowledge damn shit about apple.
I mean... why would you?You can via regular text message. You don't get any of iMessage's extra features though.
I mean... why would you?
the fact that any new MBP is coming with 8gb of RAM is insanity
my MBP is 10 years old and has double that amount

Yes it there’s one thing we can trust it’s Google to not data mine android devices. Android 14 is going to be like totally secure. I’m super cereal guys.Apples vaunted "security" and "support" are both complete jokes.... the DEVICES themselves are pretty good BUT the system they use completely sucks and leaves your a$$ hanging in the wind.
Additionally ANYTHING compromises your "icloud" account and you are 100% screwed with little chance of contacting any competent help/tech-support that will actually DO anything about it. (and it's a HUGE PITA to create a new/clean account)
Despite how "hip" and "trendy" it is to knock Google, Android 13 is already very secure compared to IOS (provided you set it up correctly watching "permissions") and 14 is looking to be substantially tighter with authenticator app integration.

Well if you're an anti-competitive entity using monopoly power to keep market share, then it's just fine. I mean Google has done anti-competitive stuff too in regards to search. Doesn't make it okay when Apple does it.I mean... why would you?

From a corporate environment , i greatly appreciated the switch to IOS devices and the total ban of all android devices on our intune mdm . I was a huge android user before that and was plenty apprehensive about having to support them, turns out it was the biggest positive change i've seen in a long time, the shit just works for what we needed it to do, and i'm talking about having to support truck drivers that absolutely hated technology but with the ipads/phones it was simple and quick to fix, not perfect mind you but way easier than having to support Android tablets/phones.
/i did eventually buy an iphone/macbook air
//probably shouldn't have bought the macbook but it works well
Please spare us. The 10 year old Mac's used Intel processors. I had 16GB of ram on my PC back then.Mine is 10 years old and has 8gb of ram and it is more than enough for a 10 year old macbook pro and I do development on here running Xcode, web servers, db servers, etc, all at the same time, and it doesn't really chug. I'd think current hardware would make use of the 8gb of ram even more efficiently. 8gb of ram is MORE than enough for people who are using it to basically just browse the web and look at Facebook and Instagram.
And people do realize, if you want more ram, you can get it, right?
Also not sure what this "walled garden" is that has been referred to multiple times in this thread. I've been on iPhone since I got a smart phone back when the iPhone 4 was new and came to Verizon and have no clue what that means.
Please set up a survey form and collect anonymous feedback from these users. That's the only real way to find out. Reason I say this is, I have seen users suffering with lesser hardware and not informing IT because they don't want to appear as "fussy users" or divas and think that if IT deems their demands are unreasonable, they might get reported to higher management for trying to acquire more expensive hardware than the IT team has determined they need. We've helped deploy many thousands of Macs and the vast majority of people have no issues with 8GB.
