I called Cox here in Santa Barbara and they said that thery're re-working their contract and may mor may not continue to carry ABC HD.

WTF??!! We only get like 10 HD channels as is... no FX (the shield), no WB (smallville, supernatural), and now no abc (lost) !!!

All thats worth watching is Fox HD ( 24 ) and NBC ( Heroes)

HBO and Show show the crappy movies.

Its almost not even worth paying for a HD anymore :(

At least i still have Discovery HD for planet earth...

It's not Cox's fault. Damn greedy network affiliates trying to charge for what they distribute over the air free.

I says its both. The network probable charged a low rate to get Cox and them to carry. But Cox then charged a very high rate. So ABC stepped in and said if you are charging X amount we want Y amount.

In the end the user is losing out. 1 of the reason I have the most basic cable and get my HD over the air for free. :)

You have to pay extra for your HD channels? Most of ours are free here.

Yeah but don't you have to pay for the box?

The HD box is the same price as the non-hd digital box...

I noticed that our ABC HD feed in Topeka KS disappeared recently as well...I have been trying to figure out the reason.

The affiliate pays the network for the network feed, and Cox sells what the affiliate distributes over the air... so can you blame them for wanting their cut? ;)

Something like this happened with a NY station and one of the satellite companies a while back. Each side always blames the other, but in reality it's probably a little from column A and a little from column B. They'll make a deal eventually.

That's the reason I'm not on HD yet. 8 HD channels offered locally. Yeah, right :p

The local time warner and ABC have yet to work out an agreement so we have never had ABC in HD here.

OTA is free and not compressed as much as satellite and cable, if at all.

OTA + cheap basic cable is all you need.

Yeah but how many channels would I get OTA?

Edit: just checked out TitanTV for HD listings. 4 OTA HD channels. Wanna know what's playing?

No fair, it's daytime. Most of the people home now are women and children.

I think it's kind of funny that the HD era has caused an INCREASE in the use of antennas to receive TV.

We just got Fox, ABC and NBC here. Had only CBS for a long time but I guess Cox finally caved and paid the money.

My Lost was in HD. I have Comcast cable.

And yes, its $5 per month for HD, not bad if you ask me. Considering you get lots of HD channels, and Discovery is probably one of the best. :)

You people have no idea what you are talking about.

Cable companies CANNOT charge for local HD, it is against the law for them. The only company causing problem is the Networks.

Local HD Channels MUST be unencrypted. Just try pluging a QAM tunner from a TV an it should work just fine with local HD Channels.

Our ABC has told Time Warner that they cannot even transmit their channel in unencrypted QAM.
