WTF 8.99 for Saturday Delivery with Amazon Prime

It's been like this for at least a month or two. I posted about it in another Amazon thread.

As for the USPS shipping, I'm not a huge fan of it either. The stuff usually comes when it's supposed to; however, it's not uncommon for me to not actually be able to get it until the next day. I live at an apartment complex, and both FedEx and UPS will just leave items at my door. USPS will either attempt to stuff it in the mailbox, which works fine for games/movies or small Monoprice orders, or they will give it to my complex's office. Unfortunately, I don't get home until after they close, which means I have to get it the next day.

An interesting thing to note is that the packages do say something along the lines of "leave if recipient is not available."

EDIT:

I don't think I've ever had an order placed on Thursday get to me on a Saturday.. was always Monday if it didn't come in on Friday.

It's always been pretty random for me. Sometimes I've seen Saturday listed for 2-day delivery, but typically they will say Monday.

So you order $15 item and pay $9 for delivery and it's still cheaper than say Walmart or Target? Amazon is not that cheap anymore. Just like their shipping charges, prices on their regular items have crept up and now on par or more expensive than local B&M. They're almost always more expensive for daily consumer items and food. For electronics and other items you can pretty much always find better prices elsewhere.

Your argument makes no sense. If you need something at the end of the week and can't wait until Monday or Tuesday, then why would would even think about buying online anyway? Of course it's going to be cheaper and easier to go to a B&M store.

Amazon has started using OnTrac here, The funny thing is stuff that ships from Nevada has one day shipping with OnTrac here, so Amazon will some times send the item out a day later if you use the free two day shipping. Or some times they send it out the day you order it and you get it the next day.

Amazon does that to me sometimes too, and I really don't like it. I don't care if they hold it because they're only obligated to get it to me in two days, but it's because they're inconsistent about it. I hate paying extra for something and realizing that it wasn't necessary. So, if I really need something the next day, it's a great debate whether to "take a chance" and see what will happen.

I always grumble a bit when I pay extra for one-day and it ships via Ground from the local place. :|

I was suprised i ordered something last week on thurs with prime, and USPS brought the item on sat. I did not pay extra, normally if its 2 day i get it on monday if i order it on thurs with free prime shipping.

I ordered 3 things yesterday though and it showed up today, first time i got next day for free with prime, again thinking i would not get them until monday.

I love Prime.

They might have used USPS on purpose to get it to you on Saturday. While both UPS and FedEx have Saturday delivery, it costs extra for us end consumers, and I'm assuming it does for Amazon as well. However, until the budget problem finally causes them to invoke massive changes, USPS does deliver on Saturday. 😛

EDIT:

I'm also assuming that USPS is cheaper to use.

Saturday delivery from a Friday purchase was previously $6.99 IIRC, so it's not a huge change.

An order I placed yesterday will be delivered tomorrow at no additional charge.

I'm far more annoyed by the add-on item crap.

Huh? Wasn't it always like this?

You can still get stuff on Saturday without paying. I got something from amazon prime last Saturday with the free 2-day shipping.

It use to be if you order on Thursday and did two day delivery you got Sat delivery free, or if you did next day delivery on Friday you paid only 3.99 for Saturday. Now they want you to pay 8.99 for any Saturday service. Seems ridiculous.

I have never gotten free Saturday delivery from Prime. I've been a member for years.

I think this is another one of those locale things. When I was in Plymouth I could never get a saturday prime deal without paying. Now I get 2 day deliveries on saturday all the time to my apartment complex in Fort Wayne.

I ordered 2 different things on Amazon for my car. Neither fit what I needed it for. Filled out return request, free return shipping, and the biggest surprise was Amazon refunded my money the next day before they even received the returned order packages. At this point buying anything outside of Amazon is just foolish. Yes it is that good.

I just had this issue. Needed a new multiswitch for the fiance's Ford Ranger. Ordered it from Amazon, it said it would work. Long story short, all rangers except XL's use a BAA switch, her's being an XL uses an AAA switch. Amazon doesn't ask for the trim they stop at year, make, and model. They took it back, even after i had opened it and all, no questions asked, credited me next day even though I hadn't even gotten their prepaid shipping label box down to the post office yet, and that was the end of story.

Only other issue is that no one had AAA switches on Amazon, had to get it from rockauto (which had an awesome price, but not as awesome with their shipping prices and shipping time).

How do you get free return shipping when it was your error? I thought Amazon charges for shipping unless it's their error.

its the fact that Newegg has tax, and when it used to be like $64.99 vs $69.99 (Amazon), it was easy to just pick Amazon. Even if it was $59.99 vs $69.99 the fact that I'd get it 2 day with prime shipping is awesome. Newegg used to ship my crap the same day and I'd get it the next, but that never happens anymore. Plus UPS/FedEx get lazier now and will let the item sit in the warehouse for a day or two before it comes to me.

So for us CA residents, a lot of Newegg deals aren't *that* great. I'd rather one click and be done with Amazon.

As for referring to regular items, you're right. MY local target ran out of contacts solution. It's priced at like $10.84 or something or was it $9.84. I found a 3 bottle pak on Amazon for $33. I figured it'd run just a little more so I bit the bullet. Then I read more closely the 3rd bottle is a travel bottle at a smaller size. Amazon is more than Target? Blah! And back in the day when Costco carried this, you got a 2 pak for $20 which included an extra case AND a cleaner solution. If they can't even be competitive with Target for household items, how do they expect to beat Costco?

Selection hands down Amazon has amazing stuff though. Sometimes you can't compete. The fact I can be a lazy bum and click 1-click is enough for me though. Heh

NewEgg usually gets everything to me in one day because they also ship from Tennessee. Also, NewEgg will tell me if it will get to me in one day via normal shipping and they have never held an item just because they didn't have to get it to me quicker.

Sometimes when the 2nd day falls of Sat, I have received the items on Monday and other times I received them on Sat itself. I believe if people were using it explicitly to order on Thursday so that they can receive it on Sat, well, they would be pissed and more profit for B&Ms I guess... I just renewed my prime a week back, not sure what I will do next year...

They also switched to using ghetto USPS for a lot of their Prime shipping and making some small items in eligible for Prime unless the order is over $25 (WTF). Also, they started, or are planning to, collect sales tax in a lot of states. Last one isn't really their fault, but it is another blow to Amazon.

Yea, I've had amazon use Fedex's smartpost and whatever UPS's equivalent is for a lot of smaller items. I understand why they do it, but now most of my items take three to four days to arrive from a warehouse 200 miles away, even though it's supposed to be "two day" shipping.

Amazon's service has seriously been slipping lately. I'll gladly pay a little more for prime if it gets me better service.

Luckily I haven't had to deal with any Smartpost or similar crap from Amazon, though it is what Newegg tries to foist off on me quite a bit.

Amazon for me is usually UPS, and then small stuff is Prestige, occasionally USPS.
The Fedex/DHL to post office stuff sucks. Especially when they tell you it goes to your local postal location...and they drop it off at the Chicago distribution center (I live in Detroit area).

Haven't they always had a charge for overnight that arrives on a saturday? Instead of 3.99 it's like 5.99 or something? I just checked, yea I guess it is 8.99 for overnight shipping for something to arrive on saturday.

I'm actually not totally opposed to this assuming they guarantee delivery. The one time I paid extra for saturday delivery it didn't arrive until monday so I never used it again. Prime has been amazing for me and I have no plans on giving it up.

70% of my stuff I think is UPS, 20% Fedex, and 10% is differnet, maybe DHL? mostly depends on what time I order and where the item is I think.

You're supposed to be sending those use taxes into your state. Don't tell me you are cheating on your taxes.

Maybe you should order your shit in the start or middle of the week so you can get it before the weekends instead of ordering it last minute on Friday. Douchebag.

You know what is really great about amazon, even makes it probably worth it with sales tax, is the security and selection. Such massive selection and such confidence that you will get your item.
