Depends on your definition of recently, I guess. A lot of people in this thread say the issue has been going on for quite a while.


Maybe AMD wants to take the time to make sure they don't release a driver that kills video cards, like what that other GPU manufacturer did.

I don't know what you are referring to with the killings from "other" manufacturers, but that is not the point. On a professional level, you would never give your customer a delivery date and on that date (not before) say "just give me one more day." You would be out of business in no time.

When did AMD give you a delivery date for the driver release?

I don't think AMD can control what news sites report or misreport.


Also, Blizzard proves your statement false.

I really think its to appease the review sites. It may address micro-stutter issues. But I feel micro-stutter is actually a different issue. And thats where the memory changes that AMD mentioned some time ago come in. But the FCAT issue has just as much affect on single GPU's as multi. Its just not as perceivable.

SLI is just a better implementation for multi-GPU configs. But thats not nVidia's doing. 3dFX designed SLI and the core technology is very similar to what it was 15 years ago. Obviously there have been improvements and driver changes. But nVidia did not develop the core technology around it.

It was posted on their corporate twitter account and their Facebook.

Don't try to spin this into something it's not. AMD told everyone July 31, then took another day.

This isn't true. We had a lot of posts last year and this year from people with exactly this problem. We have had reports of microstutter problems with AMDs crossfire implementation for many years. HardOCP reported repeatedly that NVidia felt smoother and that they preferred that implementation but without a way to measure it. TechReport showed fraps data that showed issues with consistency on dual cards 1.5 years ago and then with AMD single cards again 6 months ago. We have the videos from pcper.com which people clearly can see the problems in (over 90%). We have the videos from techreport which again people can tell the difference. We have many people claiming to see this in the forums, reporting problems and asking how to fix it. So many of them infact we have a group of people with their favourite workarounds (Someone ought to round those up and make a post so it can be stickied since its posted about so often). We have the 120v60hz blind trials that have shown that most gamers can tell the difference between the two, with 7970 crossfire we asking people to tell the difference between 30 and 60 fps.

We have made more progress on understanding this issue in the last 2 years than the 10 preceding it and pcper.com and nvidia's FCAT are a large part of that understanding. Its my opinion the problem with AMDs cards is largely the reason we made this progress, without that problem and many reviewers and users reporting it these tools would have largely failed to register because it would have been a tool looking for a problem. But because people did have the problem finding an objective way to measure and understand it has been a big priority.

You have to ignored everything going on in our industry on this issue to believe that "NOBODY even noticed", because its simply not backed up by the evidence and what we have seen over the last 1.5 years. There is tonnes of evidence supporting that people see these problems, and that the majority of people can tell the difference. Some don't care and some are in denial still evidentially but still the evidence is strong that people do notice. You might be one of the minority of people who can't, good for you since you'll always be able to run low spec cards and get the same experience some of us have to pay a lot more for. I wish I was happy at 30 fps, but I am not.
 
I really hope it works and does so well, the last thing we need is reviews showing it not working very well or inconsistently. Would be nice to finally close this chapter of AMDs unfortunately history on this generation.

Best fail excuse ever! You don't need 7970 cfx to have the performance of your NVIDIA 660... This driver is targeted at people with 2 high-end GPUs. Not a single streamline card

Lol. The drivers don't even let me enable crossfire. I select it and select apply, and it does nothing.

Nvidia, at least had their "bricKING" drivers on time! Just as scheduled!

No, thanks. I will just wait for it when it is 100 ready. The last thing AMD needs now is fail driver release. Imagine what would happen if it was AMD and not NVIDIA, who released bricking drivers.

Looking @FPS in those tests, the performance is the same or marginally lower
 
Will someone PLEASE confirm whether these drivers are mitigating microstutter to a significant degree?! The suspense is killing me
