WSUS will NOT synch

Homerboy

Lifer
I had a WSUS server up and running for months on end... 70+ PCs synching off it with little to no problems.

Then ~month ago it just starts failing on synching. So I try everything... googling etc etc. Nothing works. So I figure, screw it. Uninstall and reinstall from scratch. Still nothing.

This is the following error I get:

WebException: The underlying connection was closed: Unable to connect to the remote server. ---> System.Net.WebException: The remote server returned an error: (407) Proxy Authentication Required.

there is no proxy server for the machine to go through (well there is but it doesn't HAVE to hit the proxy to access the internet.

Please... I'm at my whit's end.

Also on the main WSUS Admin Screen I get: There are no items needing your attention.
Refreshing...
Review new WSUS Updates

Get started by synchronizing your server
To be able to view available updates you first need to synchronize your server. By default Critical and Security updates for Windows will be synchronized in all languages. Or before synchronizing you can select the products and languages you want on the Synchronization Options page.

Check your server configuration
One or more Update Service components could not be contacted. Check your server status and ensure that the Windows Server Update Service is running. Non-running services: SelfUpdate

Selfupdate is CLEARLY running in the services

stop and restart the service? Sometimes I have had services that are shown to be running but they arent really loaded and running.

We had a similiar problem with WSUS, and it came to trying to configure the services to run over a different port then normal. We just went to the default and it started working just fine.
