i was at Evo this past year for the first time. the room had probably over 5k people in there to watch the finals of MVC3 and SSF4:AE. i heard the stream reached over 30k people.

last year it maxed around 17k i believe.

competitive gaming is definitely on the up and up.
 
Dota 2 had 1.5 mil viewers during their $1mil usd debut tournament just past weekend.

I believe that's the new record.
