all the big oil producing stats are siting pretty well (except California), it certainly doesn't hurt. In california's case the oil industry is large but relative to the economy its pretty minor

I think he only won the last election because there were 3 main canidates, Perry, Bell for the dems, and Kinky Friedman running as an Independent. And it looks like he might run again this year as a democrat.
