LOL... Most US ski resorts have better long range artillery capability than Canuckistan.

They have a couple howitzers and some recoil-less rifles, but these are M60 tanks, not just some old tracked artillery. Thousands of M60s are still in service around the world. They actually acquired these before the Army fully phased them out.

I don't think mortars would provide the accuracy. It's extremely difficult to get pinpoint accuracy with a mortar on steep slopes. They need weapons with flatter trajectories. The recoilless rifles are mounted on stands near the road. All of this is mostly for highway avalanche control. For the back side of the mountain where some ski runs are, they'll drop dynamite from helicopters for the more extreme stuff.

lol that's interesting. I did some searching and found that the high velocity tank guns are actually very useful because slower howitzers produce a lot of duds (snow is soft).

Yeah but that doesn't say much - they are all insignificant powers who still use the tank as a MBT and not just for training or exercises. Heck even the Soviet T-34 was in use by countries as late as 1996

We use truck towed 105mm C1 Howitzer for avalanche control in some areas (Rogers Pass BC for example). Other places they fly up in a chopper and drop fused bombs :biggrin:
