Because there's no 2 door version of the Impreza or the Lancer
That's the question... why build these cars which are supposed to fun racing types, and then give them 4 doors?
Clearly its because they were built with 4 doors..
Is there something wrong with having atleast SOME space, and going fast?
Because it takes a lot of money to develop a 2 door version of a vehicle. It's basically a whole new spaceframe, unless you just weld the rear 2 doors shut, which would be pointless. Most sedans don't have a 2 door version, and the ones that do are just wasting space. For example why would you want a 2 door 3 series, a 2 door Civic, 2 door Accord, etc?
No, except these are compacts... completely defies logic to me.
Has it got something to do with rallying (and rally heritage) and the fact that rally cars are based on production cars??
I'm not sure and just guessing.
I don't know, if that's the case, then OK.
Otherwise, I just don't know why they create such monstrous looking things that also have good handling and power.
Ingress/egress is much easier in a four-door car. Why not be able to carry four people comfortably and have a fun car too?
Yeah the wrx looks like shit, EVO not so much

That's hilarious.
You're looking for an M5. Maxima, maybe.
Not a WRX or EVO. No compact car can claim comfortable carrying of 4 people.
STi can, we always put 4 guys into my old roomates one with no problems.
4x small weakling guys? 4x 220 lb guys?
2 of them were 200+, I'm 175 and driver was 130
That's hilarious.

Before the rally versions of the Impreza, Subaru used the larger Legacy so they eventually wanted to use a smaller chassis. Mitsubishi also wanted to compete in rallying, and the homologation rules meant that they had to produce a certain number of them to be available to the general public. So it made sense to make the cars based off their compact cars at the time which were the Impreza and Lancer. And once the cars became a known quantity and had their own enthusiast following, it made sense to keep making WRXs/Evos based off each new generation of Impreza/Lancer.
There are other performance compact hatchbacks, like the Mazdaspeed 3 and Golf GTI. I think most hatchbacks are ugly, but many like the look and the practicality. Personally I like sedans, so I decided to go with the Evo X.
That's hilarious.

Perhaps you should ask all the owners of 3 series, Civics and Accords Coupes. All three of which are vastly superior to their sedan counterparts, without even considering aesthetics.
In what sense are they "vastly superior"? They're not faster, and they're less practical.
