wrt54g weirdness

is it just me... or are these some very strange devices.

this is the 3rd wrt54g i've had to deal with. the first two were v.2's and this one is a v.3.

i'm having the same problem i was having with the first one. the device is misreporting it's MAC.

this is really strange. my firewall sees the device's MAC as is listed on the box and the bottom of the device, but when you look at the device's settings, the mac address is different (the last two digits are off).

i've tried resetting the device to factory defaults the this doesn't change the settings.

when i try cloning the address back to the listed address, DHCP seems to fail and the device doesn't capture a WAN address.

what's going on here? are these products just this bad? is it something i shouldn't worry about? what's the deal?

just swapped it out for a v 3.1. from what i've read, this is the worst of the bunch.

*sigh* i guess i'll have to wait and see what happens.

btw, do PIX 501's do QoS?

I've never had any problems except for the fact the person I bought it from on here sent me a WRT54G with a broken female input, and never offered to replace it. I have it rigged so that it has to be in one position or it will lose power =(.

do me a favor... if you dont mind.

look at the MAC address on the unit itself and then compare it to what is shown in the system status. tell me, do they match?

I have a version 2.2 of the router and the 'default' MAC address on the router status page is the same as the one listed on the bottom of the unit.

The normal operating MAC address is different since I cloned it from my PC, but that's not really relevant.. 😉

i think i'm just having bad luck....

4 of these wrt54g's aren't right. my originall lingo box was bad, and the replacement i got today was bad. my soekris box wasn't working right. and to top it all off, the wrong MB i got off of ebay, doesn't work either. :/

i can't be alone in this. the chances of picking 4 consecutive bad boxes are pretty slim.

other people win the lotto, and i pick bad hardware. how fair is that. :/
