WRT54G stop working with DD-WRT Firmware

I've been using DD-WRT on my WRT54G v2 & v3 now for about 2 months. All of sudden, this pass weekend, I cannot open up any web pages when the using the firmware. I have tried, v24 RC 5 & 6.2 as well as v23 SP2 on 3 different WRT54G's all with the same results. I reset the router to default and still nothing. The router will connect and get and IP from my ISP (Earthink) using PPPOE, however I can't get a web page to display.

I tried going back to a Linksys Frimware v3.x that I still have and it works fine, however with the DD-WRT, it does not. In the past it was working fine however, all of a sudden no version of DD-WRT seems to be working. I also tried and old BEFSR11 and it too works just fine. I even tried connecting the WRT54G with the DD-WRT firmware to the BEFSR11 and again nothing.

Did something change in the firmware or is there something else I can look for as this just started this past weekend and before that everything was fine.

I have another WRT54G at a remote location in which I'm connecting the 2 using the routed VPN setup and that still works just fine. Also the PC on the other end can still use the router just fine and all pages display ok.

Thanks

Sounds weird. Duh questions: initial install was done with mini? no dhcp/ip conflicts?

I've been using DD-WRT v23sp2 on my Linksys WRT54Gv2 for a while now (1 year? 2 years?) and I've never had any problems with it. Granted, I wasn't using it for anything high tech (got it as a fix for torrents and dyndns), but it just suddenly stop working is puzzling...

Have you tried it with another 3rd party firmware? does it work then? That would at least narrow it down to an issue w/ dd-wrt or something wired going on with the router. Try Tomato.

I did a hard reset before and after the upgrade, and nothing seems to work with any of my WRT54G's. Right now I'm using Linksys 4.21.1 and everything is fine.

I tried to go step by step and eliminate possible things and right now I have to believe it is something with the firmware that is not working for me. The strange things is that it was working just fine until this weekend. Also, the router does work as I'm using it now just with a Linksys firmware. My PC cache has not been flushed, but again, as long as the router has a Linksys firmware, it works.

UPDATE

I just tried HyperWRT 2.1b1 and it too works just fine. I can get to all web pages. So I've pretty much tested everything I can and I now think something about the router and the DD-WRT firmware is no longer working for me. It did in the past, but now nothing. Every other firmware I've tried works, just not the DD-WRT versions anymore.

I flush the cache on my browsers, but I can't see how that could be it as when I change to another firmware without flushing the cache, it works. I have been trying with both IE7 and FireFox on multiple PC's and these are what I normally uses.

So far this is what I've found:

Firmware other than DD-WRT:
1) ISP connection
2) LAN PC's connect (wired & wireless)
3) Pages display on correctly on all PC's

Any DD-WRT firmware:
1) ISP connection and IP
2) LAN PC's connect (wired & wireless)
3) No web pages displayed on any PC's

If you do not need any of the othe features that are provided by DD-WRT, HyperWRT is the most stable and smooth upgrade.

One of the big features is the ability to do Site-to-Site Routed VPN. I have 2 other remote sites that are using the DD-WRT firmware and we all connect via VPN. I'll have to look at some of the other firmwares out there that hopefully have the same feature, but I don't think HyperWRT does or at least I could never figure it out. I was using HyperWRT before switching to DD-WRT.

HyperWRT can not do End Point VPN, and it is Not further developed.

I can see that you are doing anything wrong. It might be that the Router is approaching EOL and stretching it with DD-WRT is no more fully functional.

This is so strange especially since it just happened out of the blue yet it still works with other firmware. I may try Tomato and see how that works. Since it too is a more robust firmware like DD-WRT with many add-on features to see if it is the amount of work it has to do, or is it still something with the DD-WRT firmware it just does not like anymore.

Well it looks to be something with the DD-WRT not longer working with my WRT54G. I'm currently using Tomato 1.17 and everything works just fine. I did a hard reset and upgraded through the normal process. I then setup PPPOE to connect to my ISP and away I went. I'm not sure why then the DD-WRT is not working. Well, it appears to be working as it always gets and IP from my ISP yet when I try to surf, unlike the other firmware, I get nothing.
