WRT54G best settings?

I have version 2 of that router and also have dd-wrt (latest version). I'm looking to boost my signal and want to know what are the best settings for it. I want to get a 15dbi high gain omnidirectional antenna and up the transmission power from 28mW to 56mW. Is that safe? Too much, not enough? What are some of you guys doing?

I bought 2 7dbi antennas on ebay, left my power alone and only use the left antenna. My 3 wrt's have been up for 3 weeks in WDS mode without any hickups. 🙂

I have it on 50mW the SNR gets bad above it. 15dbi Omni? Large number (dbi) Omnis are not efficient if you have to push it so much you should get s second unit.

The right amount of power is the bare minimum to get it done. Any more, and you get other issues as Jack pointed out. I have a set of three with directional antennas boosted to 70 Mw, but that was after considerable testing. With omnis, I stop at 40~50.

I'd be interested to hear if anyone managed to push the FCC limit of 1W with these units...and the effects of course.

http://www.hyperwrt.org/ This should help get your signal boost. Have it set to 84 watts here currently without a problem. The only thing you need to watch for is heat buildup. If indeed it starts to run hot you can either turn it down a little or put and external cooling source on it. Such as a fan.
