Hi, I hope some can help me. I recently bought the Linksys WRT54G wireless-G router to upgrade from the Linksys BEFW11S4 wireless-B router.

I have an IBM thinkpad T23 using Dlink DWL-650 wireless-B PC card. This worked great with my Linksys B router. I now also have a Thinkpad T40 with built-in wireless-G card. So that was why I bought the WRT54G router. Its version 2.2 with firmware version 3.03.1

1) My T23 connects to the router but looses connection about once or twice an hour. I never had this problem with Linksys B router. The router is located upstairs, same place I had my B router. What am I doing wrong, any suggestions for settings?

2) The T40 sees my home network but does not obtain IP address from it, DHCP is enabled both on router and on T40. T40 is also set to obtain IP and DNS automatically. But just cannot get it to get the IP from the router and connect to internet. I have tried doing the /release and /renew with ipconfig still no luck. When do ipconfig on the T40, get the following:

DHCP Enabled: Yes
Autoconfiguration Enabled: Yes
Autoconfiguration IP: 169.254.226.94
Subnet Mask: 255.255.0.0
Default Gateway: (no value for this)

Please any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

1.Disable any "extra" features and make everything as simple as possible - no encryption or frame bursting. If your DLink card works fine then add one feature at a time to identify the problem
2.Manually set the IP on your T40. If it still doesn't work it may be a hardware problem. Also make sure the built-in card is turned on through both software and hardware.
