just did a fresh install of windows, everything was looking good. downloaded the new catalyst drivers. when i got to start->shut down, the standby feature is not acessible. oh well, i didnt think that was a big deal because everything else was working fine. i popped open my case to clean up the wires a little bit. i boot up my computer and it take 2-3 minutes to boot into windows with a 1700+, this is FAR slower than the time it takes for my 1.2 duron to boot into windows. also, after the welcome screen, the monitor blacks out and takes another 30 seconds to boot into windows. when it finally gets into windows, it completely freezes for 2-3 minutes, then starts working. i try to run winamp and when i try to play a song, it scrolls through the entire play list over and over again. i scanned for virsuses but everything was clean. when i shut down, it also takes a good minute to turn off, what is going on here?

is your HD partitioned???? teh reason winamp skips all teh songs is caus it cant find them. Happenes when you rename them or move the Dir. if the HD is solid no bad sectors or any of that junk. i say just backup you stuff and reformat again

sure does sound like you loaded xp on top of a older system. probably the best recommendation would be to do another complete full format, the reload from scratch. probably a good idea to check all your devices and make sure they are working correctly. had a couple of cdrom drives once that had the same id. sure did confuse things for a while.
