How much did you pay? The cost of shipping it back along with the time you have to wait is probably not worth returning it even if you paid $50 more than a 6870 costs.

Think it was $249.99 with the $20 MIR and free shipping. If you refuse shipment (and let Newegg know you're going to) I don't think they'll hit you with a restocking fee. That is if he hasn't received it by now. If he has and has opened it the restocking fee is pretty onerous - not to mention return shipping. That is a pretty good price and the only advantages the HD 6870 has over it are lower power consumption and heat produced. Its not even that much quieter with its reference blower fan.

Nah, you did fine with the GTX 470. I have two (which I paid more for than you), and I don't think the 6870 offers a compelling reason to upgrade from a GTX 470. Maybe when the 6970 comes out in Nov, but that will be more expensive too.

Of course, if you just want a 6870 instead that's another story. Buy/keep what makes you happy. I'm pretty sure that Newegg would let you return it without any penalty if you sent them back the unopened box. They will usually bend the rules a little as long as you're reasonable.

I think 470 at this price is fine purchase, but ATI is coming with 69xx series, that might shake up the market some more, but I suspect they will be at least 300+ a piece. not in this price range. As for 6870 it's a fine card and runs with less power than 470 but they about the same. If you need like 6x connections to monitors/tvs then 6870 has an edge, if you don't and enjoys phyx 470 is fine.

Hardocp is going to pit the card you just purchased against the 6870 in an upcoming article. You will likely find that an interesting read.

470 is friggen fast, I wouldn't want to return it once I got it in one of my rigs unless noise/heat was an issue.

I sure hope they do a maximum (within given parameters - voltage tweaks or no) overclock on those two for the review.

I got my GTX 470 for that price several months ago. No complaints and don't regret purchasing it even with the 6850/6870 or 460 coming out since. It runs quieter and cooler than my 8800GT. Just make sure you have good case ventilation.

Good deal and enjoy.

Back in Sept. I was about to purchase an ATI 5850... then people here told me to wait till the 6800s release to see if they were better and to see if the ATI 5850 price would drop... then last weekend I picked up a GTX 470 for about $220... been very happy ever since and after seeing the reviews on AnAndTech for the AMD 6800s - I'm going to keep the GTX 470... if the AMD 6800 were to kill the GTX470 in the benchmarks and priced at $230 I would've returned the GTX470... but the AMD 6870 didn't... :awe:...

As others have said, the GTX 470 is a fantastic card. $229 is a great price for it!

The only reasons I could see wanting to return it is if you really want Eyefinity or need Displayport, or heat or power consumption are an issue (the GTX 470 consumes 100W more than a 6870 at load, and 120W more than a 6850!).

In terms of actual gaming performance, a GTX 470 and a 6870 are neck and neck.
