how is that a legal play? is it because they never called time out?

also, after you use it once, not much chance of using it again, especially if other teams hear about it.

There's nothing illegal about it. Everyone was set. The ball was snapped. The QB carried the ball.

This same trick is used in basketball on in-bound plays..

I'm at a loss.

On one hand, the play is pure genius, on the other, it shows pretty poor sportsmanship..

Overall, I guess I say:

If I was a coach, I might think about pulling this play if my team was a few touchdowns behind with no hope of winning. Otherwise, booo .

It'd be pure genius if they were the first team that did it, which I don't think is the case. I've seen several videos of teams doing this play.

Definitely bad sportsmanship, and really not the way I'd want to win a game.

There is a difference between what you can get away with and what is right, and I've noticed that a lot of people don't differentiate between the two.

Shady play. I would still think that it is in bad taste if used in the NFL, but for some reason using it in a HS game makes it seem worse. HS kids are stupid and honestly shouldn't be expected to realize that that was a legal play. If it was in the NFL, I would expect to see the qb smashed as soon as he was seen taking a legal snap. To me, it just seems like a coach taking advantage of less experienced/knowledgable players to win a game.

Well, a big part of me thinks that using every legal play in outsmarting the other team is a really great way to win, but this seems to be taking it a little to far. It should be noted that a somewhat similar play IS run by some NFL teams where they act like they are doing an audible and then do a direct snap to the RB, I have seen it take teams compltely off guard where they weren't expecting anything and then the Oline just bowls over the unsuspecting Dline and the RB gets a big gain. There was a college foot ball game where a player appeared to signal a 'fair catch' but the signal requires your hand to be over your head and instead they waved their hand at their side. The whole other team came to a stop until the dude suddenly took off again and scored a touchdown. Its hard to draw the line between being sneaky and being unsportsmanlike (or legal). For example the Fumblerooski used to be legal and now its not, but at the same time you have Boise States being hailed for using other trick plays like the Statue of Liberty play.

EDIT: another example

just youtube "trick play" and there are tons of varying degrees of "sportsmanship". My favorite is having the little dude crouch down behind the offensive line where he can't be seen and then handing it off to him while he runs left and the whole rest of the team goes right.

If I was the coach of the opposing team, I would've told my linebackers to aim for the kid's ankles

and then the coaches face

anyone see the browns/cardinals game? I knew something was funky the minute anderson walked over to his WR before the play was snap.

Coach Romeo Crennel OK'd a trick play as the Browns went for two points. With Cribbs in the backfield, Anderson moved away from center to feign giving Edwards some instruction. Hank Fraley snapped to Cribbs, who faked a run, then lofted an easy pass to Winslow.

Cribbs being in the backfield should have alerted the Card it was going to be some type of trick play, nice execution though.
