Writing on CD-RW's

I just bought a nice little pack of cdrws, for the sole purpose of being able to re-use them. My problem is if I reuse them, I don't want to write on them with permanent marker.

I was wondering if anyone here has used dry erase marker on cds before, and/or if anything bad happened. I can't think of anything going wrong, but I don't feel like wasting a disk just to see the solvent in the marker eat through the label or something.

I know of someone that did that, with some pretty good sucess. I can't say whether or not they caused any data-loss issues, because CD-RW is itself so unreliable (especially the 80min and above CD-RWs, and the cheaper brands). But as far as marking and then being able to be cleaned off, yes, dry-erase markers work well. Test with unimportant data first, if you really want to make sure.

Were these titanium or platinum-plated CD-RWs? Surely you could spare one? These things are verging on the colloquial 'dime a dozen' status...

I've used Artline High Performance Permanent Markers on my CDRs and CD-RWs for a very long time without having encountered an issue thus far. The diameter of the pen does not allow for a full list of ingredients, but I don't think there's anything in them that will cause the disc's backing to start peeling like sunburn...

If in doubt, a Brother label maker will save the day

I used to use dry erase all the time on my CD-R's/CD-RW's. It works great.
