Write protected SDHC Card: Can write on one PC, not on another.

I have a Transcend SDHC 16gb memory card (in the unlocked position), and a SD/HC port on my ESP 5250 printer. Whenever I plug in the memory card, the PC will not allow me to delete pictures/movies. However, when I plug the memory card into my SD/HC port on my netbook, it allows me to do everything I want (delete files, format the card, etc).

Is there any way to get write access on my main PC? The process of using the Netbook to clear and transfer data takes way too long.

Thanks :)

Try putting some scotch tape over the little switch. Maybe the computer has trouble detecting the switch

Could there be some sort of file ownership issue? Backup the card, then maybe try reformatting the card in the camera and then trying again. It probably won't change anything but you never know.

Sounds like the write protect switch in your PC is broken. You could get another card reader, or a USB card reader - or alternatively, you could take the PC card reader apart and repair or defeat the switch. (but this strikes me as a rather difficult solution).

Seems to me that the slot on your printer is suspect. Get yourself a simple SDHC reader writer and plug it directly into one of your PC's USB ports, bypassing the printer. Could be that the printer SDHC slot is READ ONLY.

My old Alienware laptop got where it thought Sd cards were "locked". Seems there is a pin that can get bent in the reader (that detects the lock/unlock tab). Since that reader only supported SD (up to 2 gig) cards I never tried to repair it. I bought an $8 reader from walmart that works great and plugs into the USB port.

Just rfead a review of your printer (ESP 5250) and it describes the SD slot as a READER - not a READER/WRITER.

"The rest of the printer is almost bare except for the hinged scanner bay and a small media card reader underneath the control panel that supports SD, MemoryStick, and MMC; Kodak is remiss to omit the USB port we saw on the ESP 5 that worked for simple photo transfers in lieu of a standard media card. "

Ergo, I stand on my sense that you cannot write to media via this slot. Get yourself a regular reader/writer (USB.)

Excellent find. Thanks everyone for your advice and time. Sorry I wasn't able to reply until now. I'll pick up a proper reader/writer.

The tab on an SD card doesn't control an internal switch???? I assumed it opened or closed a circuit that allowed writing/erasing of the NAND. You're telling my it's just a piece of plastic???? What other lies have I been living!!!!
