I've had my new system for about a week with the following specs:
Athlon XP 1900+, ASUS A7V266-E, Samsung 512MB PC2100 DDR, ASUS GF3 Ti-500, SB Audigy Gamer, Western Digital 40GB 7200RPM, Enermax 350W PSU, WinXP Home. All drivers are either from the OS or what was supplied with the hardware. No overclocking.
I was snooping around trying to learn this new OS and went into Programs>>Administrative Tools>>Event Viewer. I noticed a few yellow WARNING flags that listed date, time, etc. so I clicked on one of them and a message screen came up reading:
The Driver disabled the Write Cache on device\Device\Harddisk1\DR1
I also noticed that this warning notice has appeared every time I have booted up my computer since day one. Write Cache is enabled in Device Manager>>Disk Drives. My system seems to be very stable and runs fairly fast. 3DMark 2001 score is 7825 (1024x768 @32bit). Write cache should not be disabled!! Is it controlled by Windows, in the BIOS or is it a hardware issue? Any ideas or input are appreciated.😕
