Wrecked my car, how will this affect insurance?

I have a 2000 Mustang GT and I ran over a boulder because I coudn't see it since I was behind an SUV. The body has no damage but the underside of the car is all bent up. The oil pan is dented, transmission pan is leaking (I replaced it so I it would be drivable), exhaust bent, pinion seal is leaking slowly because the driveshaft yolk got hit, axle housing and gas tank cover are scuffed up. If I decide to go to the insurance to make a claim, I'm not sure how bad it will affect my insurance. If it will affect insurance a lot, then I will just pay for upgraded parts myself like larger capacity oil pan, Maganflow off road x pipe and cat back and 4.10 gears while the rear end is apart to fix the pinion seal.

LOL, as much as you were paying for 'Stang GT insurance, I doubt you will notice a few more dollars.

No I am not saying you are rich, I just know that Mustang insurance is outrageous.

*EDIT* Besides, if it is your first claim, I doubt it will go up.

you can make the claim and find out what the rise in premiums will be, and if you're not satisfied, you can always cancel the claim. I burned out my transmission avoiding an accident my first year driving in the snow. It was more money for me to process the claim than it was to fund the tranny rebuild myself. All in all, it set me back $2200 cash. It was something like $2700 increase over the coarse of the next three years if i went through AAA.

x pipes are not smog legal IIRC.

I would just fix it myself. No need to get the insurance involved unless you can not cover it yourself.

I was about one car length behind it. The SUV didn't even swerve, it just went over it like it was nothing.

boul·der also bowl·der n.
1. A large rounded mass of rock lying on the surface of the ground or embedded in the soil.

2. (Geol.) A mass of any rock, whether rounded or not, that has been transported by natural agencies from its native bed.

Whatever, a boulder is a friggen huge rock, not just a very large rock. What you ran over was a large rock, or a piece of "falling rock."

IT should be covered under comprehensive.

comprehensive covers things like vandalism, and a tree limb falling on your car. it's not your fault, and your insurance won;t go up.

obviously, ask yur insurance company. if your paranoid, call them anonymously, tell them what happened, and what they think.

The same type of thing happened to me last year. Unfortunately, insurance will probably consider it an accident. The damage to my car was $1700, and my insurance went up about $350 a year........

In my neighborhood some jacka@@ accidentally dumped a 1000lbs of garbage including pallets, tree stumps, etc in the middle of the road. Unfortunately, there were tons of dark green shrubbery also, so I didn't see it until my car was driving through it.....:|
