The drivers compete on closed roads so they won't get any tickets during a stage. When they travel to the next stage on public roads, they have to obey the speed limits. The Welsh police are sh1t-hot when it comes to revenue generation, they caught a lot of the fans too. IIRC, Gronholm and a couple of other drivers got fined.

I don't know how anyone can doubt that rally is the best motorsport. You guys owe to yourselves to go see some of this in person. We don't get the craziness of WRC in the US, but we still have plenty of Pro and Club rallies. I go to STPR every year and have a blast. Its one thing to see this on the tube. Its quite another to help push a car back over onto its wheels so he can keep racing. Not for the lazy though. There are no bleachers or refreshments...

Is it actually good to go and watch in person? I always figured it'd be a bore, sitting there with one car blowing by, spraying mud in your face every 10 minutes or so.

lol my favorite part is when his car broke down, got out of the car and got a beer from the crowd :D

I enjoy it immensely. Yes, you have to drive to different stages. Yes, you often then have to walk quite a bit to get to the spectator point. Yes, cars start at one minute intervals so the futher you are from the start of the stage, the longer between cars. But its still great fun. Nothing quite like a night stage where you are sitting there with a bunch of other nuts in the darkness waiting for some chirps and bangs in the distance, engine noise gets louder, an air horn is sounded, and all of a sudden you're looking at 6 suns coming around the corner...

Go there with some friends. Take a (lightweight) cooler filled with your favorite beverage. And enjoy.

I think I know where I'm going for my summer vacation. Thanks for the heads up! Do any of you know if there are any Rally racing events near Fargo, ND?

Thanks!
