WPA problems?

Hey guys

I have a IBM x31 laptop made circa 2002 that uses Cisco Systems PCI Wireless Lan Adapter

I am trying to connect to this wireless router but I can't get onto it because when I go into properties - I can not change it from WEP to WPA or any other security encryption for that matter-

Even when I use IBM's wirelress configurer, I run into the same problem- I can only choose 802.11 authentication or WEP key

Any tips or is my computer just obsolete?

I hear I can use software to go about this?

Your Hardware is rather old and Not WPA compatible.

Very few 802.11b were at the time upgradeable to WPA, the rest do WEP.

You probably can find on eBay an inexpensive 802.11g card and upgrade.

P.S. Windows per-se does not decide what type of Encryption is available, it reads it from the manufacturer's Drivers.

was just going to say that sounds like your wireless adapter isnt compatible with the *fairly* new WPA. I might recommend an Atheros brand replacement if you can get ahold of one.

Check for new drivers first.

Check new drivers. Cisco's wireless cards include radio firmware to update the radio itself. If it's a 802.11b card, then highly unlikely it will take anything other than WEP.
