My linksys wrt54g router supports both wpa2 and wpa. Would love to use wpa2 but the wireless card in my mom computer doesn't support wpa2 only wpa. Right now I'm using wep but I want to switch over to wpa since it more secure. Well with wep, my router will generate a key after I type in some passphrase. But if I go with wpa personal, I get the menu to select WPA algorithms of tkip or aes, wpa shared key and group key renewal. For the WPA algorithms, which one should I select aes or tkip? What the diffrence? for the wpa shared key, just type in somethen random or what would you guys suggest? for the group key renewal, default is set at 3600 seconds, should I change that to a lower/higher number or just keep it at 3600?

Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) goes with secuirty type WPA-2. Use RADIUS Server. Group key renewal should be lowest for better security.

for the shared key, i go with a long randomly generated string. keygen: http://www.kurtm.net/wpa-pskgen/

thanks for the link

Will that key generator work for wpa2 as well? down the road I might upgrade my mom wireless card.

cool, I got wpa to work on my wireless network now. My mom computer, my dell laptop and my linksys wireless print server all worked with wpa.
