Hardware doesn't mean shit without software support, I have been using my Motorola Atrix 4G for about a week or so and the UI feels much slower than a iPhone/WP7 phone.

This is 100% Motorola's fault. *Any* non-Blur launcher will fix the senseless Atrix lag. Go Launcher EX is nice...

and that's why Microsoft was strict about no phone maker/carrier UI redesign crap and pretty high minimum hardware specs. I haven't tried one WP7 device with any UI lag. It may be lesser hardware but they make it work well.

I tried the HD7 next to the G2X and the HD7 is still smoother and more responsive.

G2x is using the plain Android launcher. Its faster than most manufacturer UIs, but still slower than Launcher Pro, ADW, ADW.EX, etc. In general, WP7 is smoother than most Android launchers though, because its so optimized for that single set of hardware. It just looks like crap and is difficult to navigate.

WP7 just seems better optimized in general, both for speedy performance and better battery life. Even booting up the phone is much faster (HD7 boots up in about half the time it takes the Evo to boot).

And it's obviously a matter of love it or hate it when it comes to the Metro UI. I personally love the minimalist design, while I can't stand Android's ugly mess of widgets and icon grids. As for being "difficult to navigate", are you serious? WP7 is probably the simplest setup yet. You can pin just about anything directly to the start menu, including your most-used contacts, favorite radio station, album, whatever, so all your most-used functions are one tap away.

Can you tell me how long a typical WP7 device lasts? I'm talking about texts, calls, games, browsing, downloading, music all in one day. I'm debating whether or not to get the HTC Trophy on Verizon, but I can't seem to wrap my brain around it yet.

Well that's one of the things that makes Android so great, you can customize it to your heart's content. Right now I only have one home screen, but thanks to Launcher Pro's 3 scrollable docks I have quick access to 30 apps, all without a single app icon or widget on the screen. 🙂

I mostly do lots of web browsing and texting, with some music here and there and an occasional game. (I find this very impressive considering it's a relatively small 1230 mAh battery. Evo 4G has a bigger battery yet gets literally about half of the battery life.)

The Trophy has a 1300 mAh battery, so hopefully your results will be similar.

My Surround just about makes it through the day, but I have really crummy reception at work, so a lot of the time it is probably burning battery looking for signal.

At my previous job, where I had better signal and more downtime I would stream music/movies, listen to music, play games and what not and it would make it through the 8 hours that I was there.

Well, it uses a micro USB connector, so you can always have a spare battery pack for it. I don't expect a lot of accessories for the Trophy, but it will be the only WP7 device on Verizon for months so I'm sure the basic stuff will be out for it.
