yeah. see I was right. CMU students apparently don't hang out in OT 😉
(I dont either - just didn't feel like getting a thread locked elsewhere)

edit: CMU's in pittsburgh, PA, by the way

EL FENIX - My cousin went to carnegie like 2 years ago I think, what year are you?

Maybe you would know him -

Justin Wanger is his name...

<< care to give is a summary?

What'd he talk about?
>>

basically everything from elementary school. How he started getting into electronics, designing & building stuff like a 10-bit adder in 8th grade IIRC, and designing computers in High school and working for Hewlett-Packard's calculator division. He said he would get the manuals of all the latest computers, and try and design them, always using the fewest chips possible. He used to go to some office on Sunday nights to look at manuals for the latest stuff because "smart people don't lock doors" 😉. then he described his college - programming computers, making a TV jammer (see www.woz.org), phone phreaking (he said "It may not have been entirely ethical but boy was it fun!"... he paid for real calls he made - only did phreaking because it was interesting). meeting steve jobs, designing the Apple I, how they got customers, the first computer club, the apple II. Thats as far as he went, then opened it up for Q&A.
Someone asked about the apple III and he explained why it failed.

it sounds as if HP could have cornered the PC market had they been willing to accept Woz's work rather than just dismiss it... same for Atari and Commodore. He seems to really dislike Commodores. 😉

he said bill gates is "interesting", and that microsoft does everything to the limit regarding antitrust stuff.

i'm not a very good summarizer, sorry 🙁

<< I work at Pitt, which is right down the street from CMU. Didn't even know about the Wozniak event though. >>

they had signs around CMU, but that was it. hehe, if there had been any more people it would probably have had to be moved outdoors.
