Wowowow (Evangelicals calling for Trump's removal)

If Trump loses his widespread support of evangelicals he is fucking toast, and if they turn on the GOP for defending him, I'll predict right now that Dems get the WH, expand their majority in the House, and capture a supermajority in the Senate in 2020.

Wow, it’s about time! An article like this from a magazine that actually carries weight amongst evangelicals. Hopefully, this will stir up some good ole personal reflection within the community. Time to pickup some popcorn.

The reason many are not shocked about this is that this president has dumbed down the idea of morality in his administration. He has hired and fired a number of people who are now convicted criminals. He himself has admitted to immoral actions in business and his relationship with women, about which he remains proud. His Twitter feed alone—with its habitual string of mischaracterizations, lies, and slanders—is a near perfect example of a human being who is morally lost and confused.

Trump’s evangelical supporters have pointed to his Supreme Court nominees, his defense of religious liberty, and his stewardship of the economy, among other things, as achievements that justify their support of the president. We believe the impeachment hearings have made it absolutely clear, in a way the Mueller investigation did not, that President Trump has abused his authority for personal gain and betrayed his constitutional oath. The impeachment hearings have illuminated the president’s moral deficiencies for all to see. This damages the institution of the presidency, damages the reputation of our country, and damages both the spirit and the future of our people. None of the president’s positives can balance the moral and political danger we face under a leader of such grossly immoral character.

This is a fantasy, nothing more. If it looks like any evangelicals are paying heed, the Reps will wave the bloody fetus and the sheep will get back in line.

Evangelicals should be comfortable with Pence. He is of the Faithful in ways Trump never could be.

Pence isn’t faithful or of faith. Mike pence is an opportunist.
Most evangelicals are opportunist.
They seek power and to impost their twisted views onto others, which has nothing to do spreading true biblical scripture.
Jim Baker cheated the elderly and the poor, jerry Falwell was an opportunist also feeding off the poor and spreading his hate, Jim Jones did the same however Jones took his opportunity to a new level. In all truth there are few if any differences between all of them including Jim Jones.
Mike Huckabee is another perfect example of an opportunist.

Organized religion in general is an opportunity for the opportunist.
They are tax exempt, they pray on the most vulnerable, they have little accountability, so no wonder organized religion attracts crooks and con artists.
It’s all about the opportunity.
This explains how they could attach themselves to someone like a Donald Trump and think nothing of it.
Opportunist of a feather flock together.

He IS their religion. He told them he is the Chosen One and they bought into it.
Conservative evangelicals have sold their souls to the devil in exchange for a couple of seats on the Supreme Court and the right to tell pregnant women they can’t buy pills.

I was initially hopeful when this story broke that it represented some kind of real change. However after listening to the editor in NPR this morning I don’t believe it does. He is just another person who remained silent for years and is now speaking up when his time in the public is coming to an end. He is retiring from his role in 8 days.

Trump supporters skim those articles. They tend to go straight for the "buy gold jesus plates" section.
At the last moment, they will pull a 180

Either way lol

I think he's making a bad tactical maneuver here.

Sure the southern evangelicals will still buy his rhetoric and garbage, but calling out Christianity Today as being "left" is not going to go well with those Christians north of the mason Dixon line - you know, the states every wanna-be-president needs to carry like Michigan, Wisconsin, Pennyslvania etc.
