Just got done buying text books for my upcoming classes. Thank God the USAF pays the tuition costs, because the cost of books are insane, even the used ones. 430 dollars . . .and I almost had this CC paid off. :(

At least I can sell them back.

I buy all my textbooks online now. Either Amazon or Half.com. MUCH cheaper!

after seeing cheap international paperback versions of the same exact textbooks i've used in class, i'm pretty pissed off about what these things cost.

YEah, I live in India. I've seen books that cost me $10 here (new) listed for as much as $80 on Amazon!

If it makes you feel any better, we don't get any supplementary-CDs free with the "Low Price Editions" ;-)

I guess the logic is "Since Americans can afford higher prices than other Countries (I mean countries like India, Pakistan etc.), they might as well pay it."

I guess it is a lot like medicines/drugs. A lot of drugs sold in the United States are a lot cheaper in Asian/African countries. Since books (like medicines) are a necessity, it's best to recover R&D costs/profits from the ones who can afford it...while providing it at minimum profit to those who can't pay full price.

Australia also has some of the lowest tuition fees in the developed world which makes it an attractive option for all the kids out here who can't afford to study in the United States or the United Kingdom. Australian & New Zealand Embassies are attracting thousands of student applications these days. Getting a US visa is like getting tickets to a Star Wars movie on opening day.
