Wow.

He was jailed for identity theft. What's the problem with that?

As for the "he had been blindfolded and beaten unconscious at the time of his arrest," comment, who cares? It's in Morocco, not New York...where they shove a broomstick up your ass...

I was thinking exactly that.

You didn't read the article.

He was arrested for making a fake FACEBOOK profile of a celebrity. If I were to go on myspace and create a Brad Pitt account, should I be accused of identity theft?

I'm very disappointed in you boom.

Burn down their laptops? lol

Seriously tho, South Africa is awesome. Everything north of the Sahara seems like a hell hole, with various hellholes in between, but there are parts of Africa that are really nice. Most never go there, see it, or talk to people from there. Its got a long way to go, but that doesn't mean there is nothing good there.

Reminds me of Spain. They've been taking notes from across the Strait of Gibraltar.

Spain royal sex cartoonists fined

Their cartoon, on the front page of the weekly satirical magazine El Jueves in July, depicted Crown Prince Felipe and his wife Letizia having sex.

The edition was pulled from newsstands across the country by police.

A judge said that El Jueves' Guillermo Torres and Manel Fontdevila "had vilified the crown in the most gratuitous and unnecessary way".

...

Slandering or defaming the Spanish royal family can carry a sentence of up to two years in prison.

I thought Spain was supposed to be one of the "modern" states.

Don't be disappointed in me...I can read:
"Mr Mourtada was convicted of "villainous practices linked to the alleged theft of the [prince's] identity".

Whether you agree with the charges or not really doesn't matter. Every country has the right to make laws to suit them, not us.
I'm sure many countries think WE are barbaric because we have a death penalty and <gasp> actually execute criminals...

Myself, I'm a supporter of the death penalty and think its use should be expande to cover many more crimes...exactly which ones depends on my mood of the day...😉

South Africa is awesome

Kind of a poor generalization I think.

And substantively different from "Africa sucks"?

I just don't see how you can call a country with more HIV infected people than any other (as well as deaths) awesome.

Yep. It is estimated in many parts 6% of the population is infected, with a life span of 36-40 years.

Please leave your relatavist BS at the door. There is a difference between laws arrived at by a democratic population vs those that are forcibly imposed upon a population with no political power. Your same argument could be used to excuse the lashing of a rape victim or stoning of a woman who is raped because she's now not pure. If you believe in anything good in the world at all you know those cases are examples of not something different, but something wrong.

Get off your fucking high horse. You suppport the current Bush regieme...that mean (at least by default) you support the torture, waterboarding, and Guantanamo. Wherre is the "good in the world" in any of that?

BTW, no, I don't believe in any "good in the world."
See, I don't have to agree with the laws in Morocco. It's not my country, I don't plan on ever visiting there, nor do I give a shit if they cane their citizens for throwing chewing gum on the street. (Singapore)

Why don't you folks try aiming your wrath at some countries that have SERIOUS civil rights issues...like Saudi Arabia, or North Korea, or <gasp> China?

BTW, it's the principle of Legal Positivism; The Command of a Recognized Legal Authority
Commands are valid laws regardless of their good or bad content...

I'm not debating that brainiac. I'm merely applying good ol' western standards and morals to a society stranded in the 6th century.

I'm sure many countries think WE are barbaric because we have a death penalty and <gasp> actually execute criminals...

NOW YOU ARE GOING INTO SEMANTICS. This isn't a matter of perspective, it's a matter of what is morally and ethically correct. Ethics don't change depending on what f**king country you belong to.

Seriously, I'd like to see you stuck in the Soviet Union during Stalin's domination. "Hey, it's all good since every has the right to murder their people as long as it agrees with the law."

Of course you are fundi.

Then where is your outrage at the many things that go on in other countries; Saudi Arabia, North Korea, China, (just to mention a couple) have horendous laws that violate "good ol' western standards and morals," yet I don't see you righties getting on the bandwagon about much of that...unless your Rush Limbaugh Daily Newsletter tells you to...

Sure they do. Like it or not, different cultures have vastly different morals and ethics. You can't go around changing the ones in countries you don't like and ignoring the ones in countries we do like. Pick a set of moral and ethical standards and apply them to everyone.

I don't think anyone outside the Stalinists ever thought that was right, proper, or decent. AFAIK, it was never actually within the laws of the State at the time...yet it happened.

I'd like to see some of you Righties disappear under Rendition...after all, it's the law of the land, right?

Uhh..I've posted plenty of threads regarding SA and China. Just because I make a thread about backward Africa I have to include every other country that is morally diseased?
Sure they do. Like it or not, different cultures have vastly different morals and ethics.

You are deluded. Take a trip to Saudi Arabia and see how far that goes.

I can go around pointing out their flaws and its significance.

Morals and ethics are NOT flexible. These people have twisted humanity and impose on their citizens. Wake up sheep.

Wrong.

Stop using righties as a scapegoat. I have no political allegiance.
