dude, why is it japanese? all the characters are chinese on the sign, except the C letter, which is probably for "CC" because of the number "490" , now, the irony is lost on people who can't read the signs... basically he's sitting near a place with gasolines, with a firecracker.

some of the chinese characters are simplified characters, so he's probably from mainland china. or maybe singapore (the only other country that uses simplified chinese characters?)
