I have always been fanatically opposed to cologne and any generally smelly add on scents. However, my friend gave me a bottle of Ralph Lauren Romance for men as a welcome back present and about six women in an office and later on a going out setting were quite taken with the scent which lead to conversation which led to flirting which could lead to other things..

Do you mean Ralph Lauren Romance Silver? If so, I have this stuff too, and it works/smells great.
 
The number one reason woman love certain scents (colognes) is because it reminds them of a certain someone from the past. This is factual information according to me and my most of my female friends, so (no offense) don't get an ego from the attention because they are more than likely remembering some other guy. 😉
