Wow, what kind of hardware do I need to decode 1080p MKV files?

So what kind of hardware does one need if the above doesn't work? Would it make a difference if I'm only running a 1680x1050 display?

Tried coreavc... better but still a little jumpy. Thanks for the info! Guess I'm about due for a hardware upgrade anyways!

too many processes in the background?

could also depend on the codec. my AMDX2 2.3ghz runs some 1080p really smooth and others will slow it down a lot.

I'm trying to play the Planet Earth 1080p MKV's, they're about 4GB each. I'm pretty light on my background processes. Maybe it's those files and the bitrate?

its the h264
its stressful
if you don't have multithreaded decode...u in for the pain.
did you get retail?
i think the free coreavc that comes with codec packs is single core.

How about any good software to transcode 1080p MKV to 720p? That's all I can really display, and since I'm *that* close to being able to watch a 1080p MKV, I'm sure I can handle a 720p just fine.
