Ok I still have absofuckinglutely no clue what this thread is about. OP is worthless.
Even the previous summary was confusing with all the pronouns. Let me take a shot at it.

[*]Purepolly works with nurses at a hospital.
[*]Before the nurses can go, the medication must be counted.

[*]Purepolly volunteered to do that medication count without pay (ie when not on the job). Legally, there is potentially a serious liability issue here of having the wrong person not on the job counting medication, but that is beside the point.

[*]Purepolly goofed on the medication count.
[*]Purepolly's boss scolded Purepolly in front of others. This is very bad management.

[*]Purepolly will no longer volunteer to do that job while not on her own time.
[*]Purepolly assumes management will pay 4 nurses overtime for half an hour per day to do the medication count that Purepolly was doing.

In reality, one of the following will happen:
[*]Purepolly's job description will be changed so that medication count is now her responsibility on-the-clock.
[*]One of the nurses will be forced to do the medication count work on the clock during the normal work day.
[*]The hospital pays $0.00 more.

you guys are ruthless

i took the OP's main point as "my manager dressed me down in front of everyone unnecessarily and won't like the consequences"

so the medicine count was off and you got reamed... are you like charge nurse or something?

she probably is.

People who grasp for power and control (the ones who turn out to be managers and supervisors) tend to be real idiots once the power trip gets to them. It is just in their nature.

Either, one, they decide since they are in charge now, they can get lazy and just tell people to do their job, or two they micromanage to the point, where they frustrate everyone. Sure all leaders should recognize that they aren't there to be their subordinates friends or peers, but if you look at any good boss or leader that is recognized after they pass on, they always lead by example. The ones who are successful by being asses will only be remembered for being an ass.

Again, I'm not charge nurse. I was just trying to help out my coworkers by cutting the hospital a break. But I've learned my lesson.

haha, so you got burned by your supervisor for helping her lazy a$$... classic... also... what happened to the other nurses who are suppose to verify the count before their shift starts?

next time, say this verbatim... "No, i don't feel comfortable counting the medicine"

And then, she can get used to saying, verbatim,

"Would you like fries with that?"

If it's in the job, do the job... if it's not, don't...

I disagree. While it may be embarassing to be yelled at in front of others by management that's not neccesarily bad managament. And miscounting meds isn't a small mistake.
