Nice, which resort are you staying at? I stayed at the Manchebo last September and the beach was the most gorgeous I had ever been to. It's a shame a hurricane passed 50 miles north of us while we were there though so half our vacation was pretty wet.

Be prepared to devote a looooong time to dining... for some reason food service in Aruba is excruciatingly slow, from taking the order to getting the food to getting the bill. I think each meal took 2 hours each on average (and this was at several different restaurants).

Aaah the Manchebo. That was my 2nd choice option to stay at. However after doing some research and just reading what people said about the different hotels, i went with the Amsterdamn Manor. It really looks nice.

Glad to see someone else from these boards actually went! one reason we chose aruba was because its so remote and not many people really have been there (that we know) and it seems really exotic. The environment being so peaceful and quiet, as well as the safety of the area (although some might question that after this one incident w/that 16 yo chick), made use choose to go there.

So since you've been there, let me ask you some questions. Is stuff really expensive there? I noticed that 1 Aruban currenty = 1.77 USD. However, are prices for stuff there a lot more than they are in USD to kind of even it out? Also, what exactly did you do when there and what would you recommend to do? I know I definitely want to go scuba diving, snorkeling, rent jetskis, go visit the natural bridge and pool. Do you know exactly where that famous tree is located? My GF is already talkin about how she wants a pic with that thing heh. I also plan on renting a motorbike to cruise the island and explore some of the areas on the island that are of attraction, and possibly go horseback riding cause i know my GF wants to do that.

One last thing. we didn't do all inclusive at our resort because like you did, we want to try food at different places. however, do most places have some kind of all inclusive alcohol package that you can purchase? it would make things much easier.

You'll have a great time. If you are doing any island exploring be sure to take a hat with a chinstrap. The winds are constant there and will blow your hat off if you don't. I'm ready to go back. I want to rent this place for a week and kick back with my friends (that link also has good restaurant reviews that were pretty accurate IMO).

yea i plan on doing some island exploring. we might go horseback riding on a tour that takes you to the natural bridge and natural pool as well, which will kind of do 3 things at once :).

also, do you know exactly where that famous tree on the beach is located? i see pics of it all over the place, but i don't see any places that tell you where it is located (like how everywhere tells you how to get to the natural bridge and pool).

Looks really sweet, secluded with lots of sun and water, just don't get murdered.

Heh, they are all over the island. If you take a horseback or jeep tour you will see them. The trees grow like that because of the constant wind, they always point west.

my gf and I went to Aruba in 2001, and we didn't really find it all that exciting. Kind of a weird smell throughout the entire place. It was ok, but doubt we'll be back.
