Wow, this guy has some nerve...ever wonder what executives think of you?

"We're ecstatic at the 3.00 upgrade because not only have our sales gone up 40 per cent since the update but for me personally it's what I've been calling for and looking forward to for a long time," said James Brooksby, studio head at Doublesix.

"I've always been saying that effectively when you boot up the PlayStation 3 there's a 40 inch advertising space waiting to be used. Now instead of saying to the user 'what would you like to play today' - which is the basic console offering - it's saying 'this is what we think you should play today' and that's a major step forward for the entire industry and the digital distribution sector."

I'm pretty sure I've got a good idea of what I'm going to play when I boot up my PS3. I'm pretty sure I won't be playing Burn Zombie Burn after reading what this tool said though.

I disabled that "What's New" crap, so when I boot my PS3 I still just get my games list 😛. But yeah, that guy can go to hell. Gamers VERY often know what they want to play, and it's not his crappy game.

Yes, I did too (disable the What's New crap), but I still don't like the PS Store under ever main heading now. If I want to go digital shopping, I'll navigate to the shopping menu kthxbye.

Yes it does. Apparently the post knew what you wanted to type before you typed it. Maybe this corporate tool does have a point after all 😉. Heck, maybe the next generation of consoles will just let me insert my credit card and let me pick what to buy since they know better than I what I want to play.

Here's another good snippet...this article is just full of gems.

"We assume that consumers are all tech-savvy but they still buy discs and assume that's how they get games. It's so good that we're going to be encouraging new people into this new world of buying games online on their console.

Hint - We still buy discs because we prefer to own stuff, it's not because we're not tech-savvy.

I haven't upgraded to 3.0 yet, but a page that shows me the latest and greatest new PSN content when I boot my PS3 sounds good to me. I don't always keep up on that stuff; I'd miss some good stuff if I didn't see it advertised.

I agree about not always keeping up with releases, but I'd prefer they don't inform me every time I boot up. I don't mind the changing banner ads once I'm inside the digital storefront.

I'm assuming this is sarcasm?

PSN basically updates once per week... with some exceptions (e.g. trade shows) That's it. All you have to do is check the store late Thursday afternoon and you won't miss anything. For that reason alone I think the What's New section is largely pointless. Also, why even add a new icon at all? Why not simply have the What's New stuff pop up when you highlight the store icon? It would accomplish the exact same thing without the extra icon.

Not sarcasm. I never visit the PSN store unless there's something specific I want. Since I haven't upgraded yet I don't know exactly how it's implemented, so I can't really respond to the rest of your post.

I'd probably look around in the PSN store more often if it was more tightly integrated with the XMB. I love the XMB interface, it's easily the best dashboard of this generation. It seems silly to not use a (IMO) clunkier interface for the store when they have such a good interface available.

I prefer the XMB by far... which is one reason I was less than thrilled with this latest firmware update. NXE is confusing and cluttered and this latest firmware update starts taking the XMB in the same direction. I really don't want store crap all over my dash. I like having the store segregated into its own area with a single entry point. Hit with all you want once I enter the store, but leave my dash simple and sleek.

They could integrate the store with the XMB interface and still have a single entry point (and Microsoft could do the same, but they chose not to).

You mean like a second XMB? Yeah, that could work. Just long as it's separate and works. The current store works fine IMO, so I've never really given any thought to using with with an XMB interface. I just really dislike clutter. IMO, XMB is far more sensibly organized without a lot of unnecessary clutter. The old blades were better than NXE, but even they weren't as good as the XMB.

Not really a second XMB. The XMB is hierarchical. Instead of the PSN Store icon opening up a new interface, it could just open up a hierarchy below it with all of the content organized much like it is in the current PSN store. Browsing it would be like browsing a media server.

I think the reason the NXE feels cluttered is because they wanted to make everything a top-level menu, and they separated the store into different areas of the dashboard based on content type. It doesn't need to be that way, it can all be consolidated under a single spot (like it was in the old dashboard).

The fact is, this works. Its done on many front on many different types of marketing. They think you will click an add, and most people will. That is not saying something bad about people, get over yourself.

Extremely tame and is really just business at work. What they say behind closed doors, where nobody outside of the company can hear, now that is the stuff that will make you cringe.

At least you can turn off that silly What's New page...it's too bad that the PSN Store icon is still under almost every category though. 🙁

Considering you can't do anything online without being on the latest firmware, that's not much of an option for most folks.

As for the comment, that's pretty tame. Hell, I didn't even find it offensive. I like it when Microsoft or Sony tells me what's new, that way, I don't have to go searching. They'd do quite well to toss some dashboard advertising at oldie-but-goodie PSN/XBLA games to expose them to the newer owners.

You don't have to watch anything.

And the "What's New" page comes from PSN. How much did you pay for PSN?

It's our very own "warp zone". 😉

This is what those on AT refer to as a "Time Warp." For whatever reason they happen very often and can result in someone's post being above the person they are replying to... even the OP!
