Heh...with the macbook pro being a reality, I can easily say that if I didn't have my T43, I'd have the macbook. The closer Vista gets, the more I feel like just jumping over to Apple. Plus, now you can run Windows XP with all drivers on the macbook, in fact, it was tested to be the fastest Windows XP laptop of any laptop with a core duo or mobile chip.

When Linux can do that AND run all the apps/games I need/want, I'll switch. Still hot

Yep. I very much doubt that I'm going to go to Vista. I'll run XP until Linux is hotness for compatibility, within a certain limit.

i was at the linux expo when they showcased it, a lot of the linux developers are saying that they are trying to move into a more user friendly environment. I can't wait.

It has been in development for nearly 5 years. This Linux technology has only been in development for about 5 months and you will notice that it's running very well. The system used was an old system with only 256MB's of ram. Windows Vista won't even boot on that. This shows that yes you can have awesome eyecandy without having to have 4 graphics cards and a Quantum computer. Linux has yet again reinvented the desktop. Linus has no reboots, not even in installation, Linux has ADM technology which means no need to install drivers anymore unless you want, Linux has SHC technology which means that if a program was to lock up it would automatically fix the program while it's running and carry on. Linux also has no spyware and virus's. Oh and it's easier to install then any Windows. So why do people still use Windows? Beats me!

i actually installed suse 10 on my laptop. It wasn't easier than installing windows, but it was just as easy. Then again, this is coming from someone who posts on AT. I would like to point out that the difficulty of installing linux is gotten better!

Wow, that virtual desktop cube thingy would be so handy. Windows sticking to edges, other windows, and de-overlapping would also be very handy. If Linux would work for what I want it for I'd be all over this.

Indeed, it's just the huge amount of flowery b0llocks in that statement makes me despise fanbois even more.

I have never found Linux hard to install. It is installing programs and changing things after it is installed that annoy the hell out of me. Even the last version of SuSe I tried still lacked in this area. We take for granted just how easy it is to install things 99% of the time on Windows in its current incarnation.

Why are some people in here calling this stuff a new idea and how MS will steal it?

***NEWS FLASH***

OSX has been doing those effects for years... yes you can watch like 30 videos, while having 300 random windows open and surfing while playing WoW in a window and then expose them all, so if anyone is "stealing", it's these guys.

For clarification:

SuSE 10 != Novell Suse Linux Enterprise Desktop 10, aka SLED or Novell Linux Desktop 10. .

SLED 10 is scheduled for availability summer 2006.

The xgl effect is already available for people to use, even though its still beta. It's been applied to ubuntu already too, as I have seen videos of it on google. I can get the source code for it, but i dont know how to compile it or add it to the distro.

Yes, but there have already been a couple posts/questions in the thread about where this is in SuSE 10. Thus my post.
