This is why the VETO exists.
On another note, all this "religious freedom" bullshit is just that...bullshit. I say that as a very religious person myself. This has NOTHING to do with preserving one's freedom of religion/conscience. I cannot fathom just how the phrase "religious freedom" got so twisted in the past few years. This is all about imposing your view on others.
IMO, when a politician elected at the federal level wears their religion on their sleeves they are bringing their faith-based beliefs into the law making process. If said politician then uses his/her position in a gov't that was purposely designed to be secular in nature to make laws that defeat that intent these politicians are de facto committing a seditious act against the gov't.
The fine line that separates the definition of morality and religion is where these faith based politicians like to launch their attacks on the Constitution from ie Roe vs Wade, etc.
Well, that can be successful at the municipal and sometimes at the state level where the electorate are more homogeneous and thus more definitively selective of their representatives to federal office. But once these folks get to Washington, they have to deal with the nation's conscience at large via all of the other pols elected from their own states and that's where they get stymied and neutralized from actively disseminating their faith based agenda. But try they will even though they must realize that they are seeking to break down and rebuild to their liking the very foundation on which our nation is built.
Freedom of religion is great. But freedom from religion in the governing of our nation is a right that is chiseled in stone into our Constitution.
We are all free to practice the religion of our choice but we are not free to change the wording or more importantly the INTENT of our Constitution to suit one faith over another or to have one religious faith claim dominion over those who are atheists or agnostics.
Legislating laws that technically do not violate the Constitution yet have the same effect seems to be a very popular ploy these days, especially where imposing religious beliefs over others are concerned.
