Here's the point. There is nothing wrong with being a pedophile (see edit), there is something wrong with molesting children. The reason we need to be able to talk about it is we say that people need to get help, but if they come out and seek help we vilify and shun them. This attitude actually increases the risk to children of being abused, because it prevents people with these urges from dealing with them in a positive, constructive way. People need to end these knee-jerk emotional reactions so real progress can be made.
Edit: Er, not that there's nothing wrong with being a pedophile, rather there's nothing illegal about being a pedophile. There's also no reason hate somebody because they are a pedophile, they need help.
I don't think people need help that are pedophiles unless they want it. Molesting a child is wrong and should require time in jail. Now the gray area is where if a trusting relationship happens where the minor starts it and agrees to it then I really see no problem with it. That is if both parties are ok by it. There has been plenty of relationships like this that have never been documented even in this day and age. Straight from wikipedia

OK, he's a bad guy, but the example given, two boys 16 and 13, is not pedophilia. If they were 11 and 8, that would be pedophilia.
In this case it would be best to have them speak with their parents about it openly first to come to a informed decision. I am not a sociologist so I am not sure if allowing their parents to decide would be a good or bad idea. I am leaning toward good but not sure how that could effect the child in the long run if after they have had a open discussion with their parents and genuinely are in a real relationship with this adult where the parents disagree. I would say put them through a test but I think that would do more harm than good unless the parents do it someway where they don't notice.
In Islam, its okay.. How old were Joseph and Marry when they married? How old was Pcahontas when she meet John Smith? How old was Priscilla Presley would she meet Elvis? Should Elvis been executed? Should John Smith?
There are many other case. Back when this country was founded, many women were married arround that age. Just because its the "law", doesn't necessary mean its right or wrong. Remember, it use to be the law that black people sit in the back of the bus...

Agree... The media is sensationalizing everything. Pedophilia means before puberty. Besides, a lot of kids now who are 13+ look older than they are... their bodies have developed faster. A lot of people attribute this to better diets... Not so long ago, when were were a smaller country, if a kids body developed so fast.. their parents would already consider them adults. They would be made to work the farm or look for a husband.
Dude has issues, but he did serve his time in prison, and probably has even more issues from that experience. He certainly at the LEAST needs to be monitored.

I had friends that had sex in middle school, (13-14 years old), but they were both the same age, therefore I don't believe that one took advantage of the other.
However, if you throw in an adult, whom has much more experience and the know how of manipulation...then it's just the adult taking advantage of the child.
