Absolutely stunning PQ, just an amazing release for HD-DVD if I do say so. I really don't know what else to say, but I'll answer any questions you might have. Now as to how I came about getting it:

Target has one copy per store in its back room. They are testing the market by only ordering 1 copy per title. If you ask them to look up its DCPI # 058270029 they might (depending on how smart they are) sell it to you if some other clever individual hasn't already bought it. Some Targets know the street date is the 10th and refuse to sell. I had to call 5 stores before I found one that would sell me a copy.

On a related note, my import HD-DVD version of Equilibrium also came in the mail today!

On a scale of 1-10, how much more impressive is it (with 1 being exactly the same as DVD quality and 10 having you feel like you could reach into the TV and given Batman a high five), and what size TV do you have?

I have a Katie Holmes Nip through Shirt Crush.

She practically had her nips stick out through her blouse/shirts throught the entire movie.

The set must have been very cold.

All I can say is that its as good as the movie could possibly look given current HD technology today. Seriously, it's one, if not the best release out of all the HD-DVD and Blu-Ray releases so far. There are of course a lot of dark scenes which tend to be less mindblowing than the brighter ones. The scenes in the snow and ice in the beginning are very 3d like, so in that regard I'd give it a 10.

I have a 80 inch screen with my projector and a 32inch LCD.

For Cuda, I'm using the HD-A1 from Toshiba.

and vi-edit, I guess I'm guilty :D

:D Of course they do. You honestly would probably not notice a difference between 1080i and 1080P unless you have a very large screen. Hell my smaller tv is just 720p as well and it looks stunning.

The Toshiba hd-dvd players are about 500-600 bucks, the blu-rays are 1000+. At the moment, blu ray looks like sh1t as well.

The lowest MSRP of the current HD-DVD players are 500.00 and the MSRP of the lowest Blu-Ray is 1000.00. Both can be had for less than MSRP at the moment, but HD-DVD is cheaper by far.

format war be gone already so I can pick a format. I've stopped buying DVDs all together because I don't want to have to re-buy them when HD or BR win :(

I finished watching Equilibrium and while the transfer wasn't quite as grand as BB, it still looked great. And, it definately looked amazing for a Japanese only HD-DVD release. I'd definately recommend it.

what about the discs? how much do they cost? and are there the stupid, pointless and easy to defeat region lock like DVDs?
